i've read about 5 hours worth of threads,
and the process goes
clean wheel, use airplane stripper, sand it down, primer, paint, clear coat
Some ppl skiped the airplane stripper or some didnt put the primer...
i was wondering if i could just clean my rims really well and spary the dup- paint, and clear coat it, do you think i would have problems with pealing or cracking? if i were to just paint over the rims?
someone did it to his black rotas just painted them gold, then clear coat.... what are your guy's suggestions ? thanks in advanced

i know its not rims, but we just got done painting some dash pieces for a show car. We sanded all the pieces with 400grit, then washed with soap and water, then wiped with alcohol, then sprayed primer, then wet sanded, then sprayed color, then wet sanded, then sprayed clear.
they all came out super shiny and look good. Just make sure there is no debris in the air and no chemicals in the air before you spray because it can contaminate the air and cause the paint to bubble and pit.

do it right. aircraft stripper will take most of the paint or anything on the wheel itself off. then, go sand it. start with lower grit sand papers..like 400 and move ur way up to 2000 grit. it will be really smooth. get a good amount of high temp primer on there. also, paint it with high temp paint and if you want a shiny look, throw on high temp clear coats.
make sure they're high temp, because ur brakes are hot as **** and it will mess with ur paint if it's not made to run with high temperatures. go drive and do some braking and go touch ur wheels. see how hot it gets. imagine doing this in the summer when the temps are like 90+ degrees and you are doing hard braking. do it right once, so you dont need to repeat the process. lay some cardboard or newspaper down in your garage when u paint it.
