Default I need a very strong but non-permanent adhesive or double sided tape...

I will be mounting a radar detector on the bottom side of my dash near and to the right of the steering column. I need something strong enough to hold the detector securely to the plastic, without it being permanent. So far I've tried using 3M double sided foam tape, 3M adhesive magnetic strips, and also tried using the adhesive velcrow that comes with the detector for a mounting option.

I don't want to drill holes or do anything to alter the panel as I'd like it to look clean when if I ever decide to remove the radar or mount it somewhere else.

Can anyone think of a better place to mount it where it will be out of plane sight but still be readable from the driver's seat?

There is some 3m Heavy duty stuff. It has a red covering and the tape is grey. I think the package said it will hold 7 pounds on a wall. That's what I use for all my stuff, it works great

did you clean the area with alcohol before you tried to use the adhesive?

two words....ready...?

adhesion promotor.

comes in a little pack, with a wipe that you apply wherever you are going to apply the double sided tape. 3m makes them, most body shops use them, but you should find them at a paint store, preferably automotive paint. People dont know this, but these are a must for lip kits and body panels
