Default external coil set up nessciary? yes/no

would i benifet from a msd external coil set up on my ls/vtec or should i stick with the factory internal coil i am running hondata will this effect anything with redlines and or spark pulse
also, i will only be reving to about 8200 on the ext coil?

bump for id like to know my self, i know a pretty good deal about spark, but just havent had any first hand evidence to tell me that i need it.

The stock ignition is surprisingly capable. There are cars that see well over 9000 rpm's every time they're cranked up with the stock ignition. A better upgrade path would be to look at CDI setups with one coil for each plug as opposed to just a single external coil.

I got a more powerful ignition system when I was running a lot of boost and started getting misfires, but for all motor I'd just run the stock ignition, unless it was misfiring, then I'd upgrade it.

im just rockin a msd external coil here too...spark only started to get blown out at 30+psi which my car will never see again...

I do not know about stock vs aftermarket for power, but on my stage 3 cammed nonVTEC my MSD SCI gave me a smoother idle and better mileage around town...

I will get actual ignition results on my final tuning dyno. I can hook up the stock coil in about 30 seconds for back-to-back comparisons.

took a while but here's the link to before and after. If you bought it retail it would not be worth it IMO but if you can get it for spare parts bartering or whatever than it's not bad.
