Default AC problems - and it is getting hot outside -- possibly a relay?

Ok- here goes. I have a 98 Prelude SH. My air conditioning worked fine the last two summers that I've had the car. I went to use it the first warm day this summer and it blew hot air out. First I checked the refrigerant level - it was fine. I really do not know much about A/C so I reluctantly decided to take it to the local Honda dealership for them to look at it. For $85 they told me that it was definitely the compressor clutch and it would cost $500 for that or I could get the whole compressor for $1000. I went to S&M Honda and got a used compressor for $130. Anyway- I installed it, recharged the system (not with a can, but at the Dodge dealership where my buddy works) and tried it out--- nothing. He thought it might be electrical, so he checked voltage in certain places. He got the compressor clutch to engage by connecting a wire from the negative terminal of the battery cable to the blue/orange side of the A/C pressure switch that is next to the high pressure connect of the system. That means that the compressor works fine (it blew ice cold air) but something electrical is wrong. I think it might be the compressor clutch relay- the Helm's manual says to check for continuity but I haven't yet. I was wondering if anyone out there has any advice for me------ Sorry this is so long but I wanted to give as much info as possible. Thanks in advance.
