Pics and Info bouts a teg I might buy tomorrow...
Alright, I went and looked at a gsr (96 with almost 89k) today after work. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I was pretty suprised about the quality of the car.
We'll start with my inspection...
Car looks great on the outside. I checked to make sure body panels lined up, shecked for signs of a damaged frame and repair. The carfax states the car has been in two accidents. They are not in the severe listing, but they are noted. I found a hole drilled behind the drivers side door in the door jam where... an entrance point o obviously pop a dent of some kind. That is the only sign of any repair done to the car.
It has one door ding about the size of a dime. Paint is great. It looked to me like this car had a winter undercoating. In the glovebox I found that it was bought in New York, so I wouldn't be suprised if it did have a dealer installed undercoating. The wheel wells are rust free. The bottom of the car is extremely clean. The engine bay showed no signs of leaks of any kind. It was clean, but not overly clean like they tried real hard to cover something up. Everything looks straight otherwise and lines up well.
I then started the car and continued to inspect the inside and out while letting it idle for about 15-20 mnutes. It idles fine, and the temp guage never went over 1/4 high. The inside is also very clean. The beige leather has very early signs of wear in the right area. No big deal though.
In the glove box I found the original manual and the name of the original purchaser, a women. As I said before, it was purchased in NY and is now here in VA. Carfax reports 3 owners.
I checked to make sure the VIN numbers matched in all 5 or 6 places I saw them, including the one on the firewall. The title is clean.
So, then it is time for the test drive. They let me take it out on my own, which gives me a chance to stop again and check things out. Again, nothing to note. It turns well, no clicks. The only wierd noise is a bit of clutch chatter when I engage the clutch (while parked in neutral). It shifts smooth and there is no clutch slippage. I hit vtec for the first time in 2nd gear and it moves.. and sounds healthy. It drives straight and there are no vibrations.
Now, this car has been slightly modded. The intake is a true cold air intake. It goes to the front of the pass side wheel well. It seems to have a cat-back exhaust, and I really tried to remember the name of the muffler.. but alas.. I forgot in all the excitment. It started with a B... not Borla.. but boessi.. I dunno.... anyway. I also found what looks to be a aftermarket rear sway bar and if obviously had a front strut bar. I don't know if the springs are stock.. Take a look at the pictures and tell me if it looks lowered.
Those are the only mods I found.
car seems very solid.. and there are no shakes or rattle. The only thing I regret is that i didn't take my digi-cam. All I can provide is the pics they had... and here they are:
It looks this good in person too.
Now, they are asking blue book value.. about $7700. I am ok with it though, if this car is everything it seems to be on first (but extensive) look. I am taking a friend with me tomorrow, with check in hand. He is gonna take a look as well to make sure I am not suffering from "Buyers Blindness".. and if approval is there, I will be driving it home tomorrow night.
So, what do you guys think?

well since you forgot to include the mileage, if its over 100k i wouldnt get it. this is just my opinion, but that green is ugly as **** with the tan interior. ive seen nice tegs in that color but i dont know. maybe get it to be different. what are your plans for the car? also depends what you feel is right and how long you looked for. i looked for around 4 months before i found the gsr i wanted. good luck and try to work down the price
Sorry.. 88k
The Green and beige is different, but I like it. I wouldn't do it just to be different. My plans for the car is to keep it as is for now (except get rid of that hideous muffler). It will be a DD. We will see what sort of an obcession this car will stir within me. I know the 87 crx si did it to me.

How are the brakes???? It looks likt the E-Brake handle is pulled really high. From what i remember it is only supposed to go up 3-4 clicks. This could be a sign of worn out pads.
Body looks real clean, but the muffler looks like it is off center. Is that just the picture or just a crappy exhaust??? My teg had about 70,000 when i got it and now has about 94,000 and it runs like a champ.
If you are really serious I would get a compression test to make sure the engine has not been abused, pull the dip stick to see if the oil looks like it has been changed in the recent past.
Apart from that looks good!!!

Brakes seem fine, but again.. I'm coming from an 87 crx si, so anything is better than those brakes. I'll have em checked out.
BTW, it's a crappy exhaust. First thing I'm doing.. alarm.. second thing.. ditching that muffler.

Carfax said it is a 1996 also?? It looks like a dark green, darker than my 96LS, maybe just the camera.
I know there was a different green to the 96 green. I was very close but a little darker

i think you look over it close on the body again...is the emblems on the back of the car bondaled?...its a sign of probably some body kit being done in the back...was the car repainted?...2 accidents?...who knows it was major ones or small ones...anyways good luck,

i noticed that too. for a stock car to not have emblems in the rear usually means it was in somesort of accident, i would check on it tho..

That's a good find. Is that dual tips? or am i just too sleepy? Don't be in a rush to buy new rims, all you have to do is take off the center caps and it will look clean

lol i noticed that too. looks like a good car you should offer them $5000 though (accidents), that seems like a fair enough price.

I wish mine was "shaved". Actually it is, but I still got those "goofy" holes showing.
