BANG FOR THE BUCK CAM GEARS???
im lookin for a good set of performance cam gears for my 99 gsr head.
as of research everyone have their own view and opinion but i kinda narrow it down to these options.
Skunk2 cam gears
JG cam gears
Golden Eagle cam gears
i thought about AEM too but alot of people here said its junk. i dont know why because STEPH and the Street GLow guys used it and they run fast ET's and make good HP so i think it good .. but alot of people here said its not..kinda debating too still about getting a set.
i just want something that good and easy to see and tune/ adjust thats all.
some said to me cam gears are all the same its just the label. works the same and the only different is material used to make it .
alright i hope u guys could help me out .. thanks for u time ..

I personally like the JG cam gears. They are good quality for $129 a pair. I hate Skunk cam gears on the other hand b/c I used to have them and all they did was jump teeth, but this was 4 or more years ago when Skunk2 first introduced cam gears.
The AEM gears are perfectly fine. You just need to TORQUE THEM CORRECTLY after tuning them to avoid slippage. Its the people that dont and just guess,or limpwrist them, that have issues.FWIW,2 of my friends have them on their 00 Si's,(had em for years) and NEITHER have had an issue....Cliff Notes...The AEM gears are FINE no matter what A N Y O N E here says,ASSUMING they are torqued PROPERLY....
I don't like the marks on my Skunk2 gears, they are too tiny. GE or STR are much easier to use with their amplified scale. I just ordered some GE gears to replace my Skunk2 gears. Always pay attention to the torque specs, whichever gear you use.

Toda</TD></TR></TABLE>Ditto...Just yank out those allen bolts and throw in some 12 points of some sort and your set..Ive had TERRIBLE luck with the allen heads on the Toda gears stripping/rounding out,so IMHO its a very cheap and easy fix to this problem. But overall they are great gears.Very easy to read, adjust

Underground Racing's TDA style camgear allows precise tuning of your camshaft. In order to optimize power, camshaft timing adjustment is essential. All Underground gears are constructed from billet 7075 aluminum that is normally found on high-stress aircraft parts. Each gear is precision CNC machined and features vernier style timing adjustment marks for increased accuracy. Underground's camgear also features a thicker hard anodized coating making it more resistant to wear than Toda camgears.

What should they be torqued to? My skunk2 ones didn't come with anything saying the torque specs for them, so I've just checked them with an allen wrech just by hand on occasion to make sure their tight.

Skunk2's are good. I would be careful with the SRR cam gears. I've seen on 2 different occasions where the the timing marks where marked a tooth off on the gears. This was checked using the marks on a stock cam gear. But if you know what you're doing I don't think it could cause a problem.
I've had Skunk2 gears on my car for the last 1.5 years with no problems whatsoever
