Ok, hey everyone!!!! Im having some troubles with my b16a1. I have searched this but I just want to see what everyone here has to say about it. My raditor has been overheating a bit in the passed week and im really starting to freak out! The other day I replaced my tps with one that wasnt broken as well as a new oil pan (thank you Miguel) and drained the engine of all its oil and no radiator fluid was in it.
After everyhting was in and i was off, the drive home was pretty good, the car stayed a little below half way on the temp gauge and then moved up to a little above half way after about a half hour of driving or so and stayed constant from there until the end when I looked at my guage when I was back and it was almost in the red. Then I took a nice long drive a few days later and the engine stayed just under half way for the 1st leg and about the half of the second and it then just started to slowly rise after that. By the time I got back the temp guage was just slightly shy of the red line. And then today I was just driving around town, more stop and go unlike my last trips and it started to over heat faster than it did before. So im now really freaking out here! I have to make a trip with this car to Massachuseets in a few days and I cant be havng any troubles.
I Have searched this topic like i mentioned earlier, and its not going into the block to my knowledge, the car doesnt have any white smoke, both of the radiator hoses are hot when the car is running and when I check it immediatly after I turn it off. The temp guage is good. Could it be that the radiator cap is gone or am i gonna need to get a new head gasket? I havent drained the system, but im gonna hit that up 2morrow 1st thing! Plz everyone! I just want my car to have no troubles for the moment! Thank you for your help!!!!!
Oh, and my radiator is a stock STD one. Is that a problem?

is there a leak in your radiator anywhere. you also might have a crack in there. check your belt and make sure its secure on there or else you're not running the water pump

Did you check the thermostat, it could be locked in the closed position and not letting fluid to your block out or in. I would check that first then if it is it. I would buy a thermostat called a (Failsafe). So just in case it ever locks up again it won't overheat your car.

Well, now im really pissed off! I took her for a spin this evening, a nice long drive, averaging about 50-60 mph, nothing serious. She was great the first half of the trip. The temp guage stayed below the the half way point and i was happy!
Then on the trip back, she stayed about half way but went up just a little. Nothing serious. WHen the stop lights came up, thats when I noticed that the temp was slowly rising. It almost seemed that it was going up when the clutch was pushed, the temp guage would go up. Im so ******* confused and pissed off at the moment!!!!! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!! I REALLY NEED FOR THIS CAR TO MAKE IT UP TO MASSACHUSETTS!!!!!! Im going to try the thermo tomorrow. Could it be that its not in all the way? Please, i could really use everyones opinion! THANKS!

Im hoping that its just the thermo. Today when i was replacing the coolant, the maintnance guy saw me and asked me what i was doing. Mind you im doing this in a school parking lot. And he asked pretty much all the same questions and he looked at the radiator and he even said that the radiator looked like it was in good condition and it does. So please o please be the thermo!

i had the same problem with my 92 honda civic dx that i brought last month. What i did was replace the thermostat and the radiator hoses and it is notw running fine with out over heating. I test it out to see if it was going to last and i has not over heat since. Try this and I am sure that it is going to work. believe me!!!!!

I coulnt really see, but it probably was because it wasnt flush with the block. Another question, am I gonna have to take the thermo completly out or can I just put in a new screw?

well, boywonder strikes again!!!!!! When I was looking at the thermo in greater detail, with my flashlight might I add, I keep finding more and more!!!! GREAT!!!!! well, not really… Anyway, what I found out by looking at it with my flashlight is that the place where I thought the bolt came out or was missing, lead to nothing, so if i put the bolt in, it would have held on to nothing!!! Well, back to square one… but I did notice that there was a radiator fluid stain all along the back of the engine. So it is leaking a little. Could it be possible that its just not bolted down all the way? or could it just be that the thermo really is bad? Man, i just want this car to work right! Its been a huge bitch since she has received the engine!!!!! HELP ME PLEASE!
My friends and i just finished putting a few of these cars together, and we ran into the same problem. It turns out that we had a leak in the back of the motor that you counldnt see. So check that out because i hear its a pretty common problem
Change the thermo and the radiator cap. Common, changing the thermo only takes a few minutes, but make sure to add more fluid and bleed the air out of the system. Thermo will cost you maybe $5-$12.
