Default possible compressor bearing noise?

hi - I have a high pitched rattle and a low drone - sort of 'dead bearings' drone
Its at the crank pulley end.
Just done a search and it may be water pump noise. Anything else it could be?

The noise rises with the revs

The car is a 1990 genuine JDM si (zc) with 50k miles on it - timing belt was done 5000 miles ago and looks in good condition.

Am I right in thinking that if I loosen the AC idle pulley I can remove the belt & see if the noise is still there. Basically to eliminate the compressor from my 'noise hunt'

Can the compressor be reconditioned?

many thanks

Alan
