I'm looking at getting some drag radials and I have 2 american racing wheels in my garage that are 15x8. I want to use these strictly for the drag strip, will they work/fit?
Depnds on the offset/backspacing. What is the offset?
And are you sure you want ot use a 15x8 for drag racing? The better question may be "Does a 13x8 fit a del sol".

well i got 2-15x8 wheels for free and I'd like to use them with 205/50 BFG G-force drag radials. I'm no expert with this offset business. Here's a quick picture of them

How would a 205 even fit on the wheel? That's for a big 6.5" to 7" wide wheel. And I really doubt it would fit unless you've got the offsets right. I dont know anyone that runs a 8" wide wheel and still keeps the spacing even with the fenderwell. It would have to be backspaced out significantly.

From the looks of the picture, the 8" will be to the inside, and that wont happen. If the offset was different and half the wheel would be in, and the other half out, then it'd work. Not gonna happen on those wheels.

couldnt he get extended studs and wheel spacers? hes going to be dragging, so he wouldnt need to worry about turning. on 8 inch rims..look at 245's..MIGHT fit a 255. ur car is also going to look retarded. it's kind of like those mexican pick up trucks with the wheels hanging out REALLY far. this is why people get widebody kit's.

Yeah but that's going to have to be a 1" spacer or larger. Then the extended lugs like you said, and a new set of open-ended lug nuts. All of that just to roll on some wheels at the track...not worth it imo.

Yeah agreed. H&R makes some wheel spacers that would probably work, but then you're going to have the track 1" wider plus you're going to have a 8" wide wheel... And those 1" wheel spacers aren't cheap, more then $100 a pair, all to make a wheel and tire combination that isn't ideal work.
He'd be better off selling the wheels to someone and getting some 13 or 14" ones.

Yeah a 14 would be better, plus easier to find drag tires... 5.5" may be to narrow though, but I'm not sure not up to date on drag tires anymore.
Getting some like 13x7 or 13x8 steelies would be the cheapest and best route probably if you're on a budget, then get some MT's.

Yeah the contact patch will be kind of narrow. Your best bet is finding something with a 6.5-7" width, since anything bigger will rub (unless the offset is right). Call some shops and find some steelies that are 13x7 and a 4x100 bolt-pattern. Will probably take some time, but it's just your time, not money involved.

alright, that sounds like a good idea. Right now I'm pushing 190-200whp, so I'm just using drag radials. I believe 205/50 or 215/60 would fit those 5.5 wheels. Street tires just haven't been doing it for me and I don't know as though I need slicks or want to deal with the headaches of breaking axles(Yes, I realize it still may happen on street tires or drag radials)
The first number is your width and the second number is your sidewall height. A 195 or 205 is made for a 6.5" or 7" wheel. 215 would be a fat 7", and 225-245 is a 7.5" to 8.5". You're going to have a problem getting a 205 onto a 5.5" wheel. A 195 would be easier, but still too big.

i was lookin at specs on tirerack.com and it says that the 205's will fit the 5.5-7.5 width wheels. I've heard that you can fit 205's on these stock 14x5.5's....possible? Sorry for all the questions
