the same thing happend to me. just go to a parts store like kragen, autozone, pep boys and borrow the obd scanner tool and clear the codes with that

I have never heard of that before.

So once you clear the code, for how long will it be gone?

the code will be gone untill another thing malfunctions. once u change the sensor u clear the codes on the ecu with a scanner.
