Default exhaust question

a couple questions about what exhaust i should get...

okay i need a catback for my 90 teg LS... i dont want to spend 500 bucks on it. i heard that meineke can build me an exhaust for pretty cheap.. i dont want my car to be extremely loud, already have header+downpipe (2" at end of DP)

okay the questions:
-has anyone gotten an exhaust built by meineke?
-what size piping should i get my catback built so its not too loud?
-will a 2" catback be REALLY loud? and will it be too restrictive to be considered aftermarket?

thanks alot for the help in advance

I got my cat-back for my DA done at Meineke. I'd suggest shopping around and getting quotes before though. 2 1/4 piping will be sufficient, and then choose a resonator and a muffler of your choice put on. The muffler usually determines the sound level.
BTW, you might want to look into KTeller's custom exhaust kits. They're mandrel bent and come with all of the necessary items. All you need to do is take them to an exhaust shop to weld it together.

JDM S1eeper has a 3" Kteller and his car sounds good, but its not extremely loud. If you don't want it to be a cop-magnet, then don't get a huge watermelon-cannon muffler. Anyway, Kteller.

Yes, I got my exhaust done at Meineke and they did a really good job. I had them weld on an Apex'i N1 muffler with 2.25" piping from the cat-back and no resonator. They also put on 2 flanges so I could unbolt it and put on whole stock exhaust for winter.

For N/A I would get 2" or 2.25" piping. If you don't want it to be loud, then get a resonator welded in. If your exhaust is modifed, then it is considered aftermarket no matter how restrictive it is.

On a lightly modified car, 55mm should be good enough.

like moogen powa said, the muffler determines how loud your exhaust is. a lot of muffler shops can make an exhaust for you, for not too much money, just make sure you get it mandrel bent.

okay i went up to meineke and he said if i bring him a muffler w/ tip he can build me a custom catback.. my uncle is a mechanic so he can do it for me but he lives in queens which is about an hour from me and it wouldnt be easy to set up a day to get this done. plus i dont want to inconvenience my uncle too much.. he works a lot and will be helping me work on my car alot already

1. $300 + buy a muffler = 2.25" custom exhaust installed by meineke
2. buy another exhaust and have my uncle install it for me

what do u guys think???

I've heard good things about meineke exhausts but I'm not so sure about meineke mufflers. Seems a little ricey to me, but alright.

Kteller is a company that makes exhaust piping/test pipes/etc. They sell different sized exhausts for most applications, and you can get the pipes already welded together, or cut up in pieces that you have to weld yourself/whoever does your exhaust. They sell mufflers too, in the range of $70-$130 I think. Either way you go, you'll probably end up spending about $300-$350 on it. If you're talking about your uncle doing your exhaust for you, I'm assuming he can weld the pipes together, and if he can then you could save alot of money by buying pipes that aren't already welded. For a muffler, try eBay. I know the quality probably isn't great, and you're probably getting what you're paying for, but you could save alot of money here too.

Oh yeah, http://www.Kteller.com

Might be easier to have your questions answered if you PM him instead. Here's his username: KTeller8

hey teg6 how loud is your n1? do you have it on a DA? I have a 92 gsr and want to put an apexi N1 muffler on but i am affraid it might be way to loud. also how much quieter will it be with a resonator on it? I really dont want to be a cop magnet.

Well, so far I haven't had any problems with cops and I don't think I will. Many people would probably say that it's pretty loud, but to me, I don't think it is that bad. My friends can hear me a few blocks away coming to their house if that says anything. Also, which I think is funny; i've had a couple people roll up their windows while passing me. I dunno how much quieter it would be with a resonator, but it definitely wouldn't be as loud as with no resonator. All in all, I am VERY glad that I opted NOT to get one installed. I think it would have been too quiet for me. My exhaust sounds exactly how I wanted it too. Oh, and this is on a DC.
