Automatic tranny question
I've started to drive in d3 on the city streets, to stop the tranny from constantly shifting from d3 to d4. I use to always drive in d4. Im usually doing about 40-45mph around town and my rpms are constant at 2700-3000rpm... Is this bad for the engine? Or should I just go back to staying at d4 where the rpms are 1700-2000?

It is fine to do that. I used to do it all the time. D4 only if I go past 60mph just so the rpm stays low.

I notice that in d3 the car seems to drive much smoother, not only acceleration wise but just overall shifting. I just figured constant 3k rpm all the time was bad for the engine more wear?
But i guess it just uses more gas? Im on a rebuilt tranny so im trying to baby it as much as possible. I put a tranny cooler in, and I'm draining/filling with honda atf every oil change
A little excessive but its cheap to do anyways.

I would have to agree that it is fine at certain speeds. That's it's whole purpose actually.
The ultimate question is what does more damage? Shifting from 3 to 4 and back 100 times a day or humming along at 3500 all day.
I would say that much shifting does more damage, so you're good.
