Default d16a6 with a ported d15b2 head

Okay, I want to port and polish the head on my d16a6, BUT I don't want downtime. I have 3 d15b2 heads laying around. Are the heads the same, but just a different cam? If I have the d15b2 head ported and polished, then install the d16a6 cam, will that be the same as if I got the d16a6 head ported and polished?

I've heard the d16a6 head is better flowing, BUT after you port and polish it, shouldn't it be equal, or not?

I have a friend that ported his head on his b16. Should I just have him polish the head, or should I have him port it as well? I've heard if you're not a professional you can **** up the head and lose hp.

You are correct, if you don't know what you are doing, for your application, you can lose hp and torque. Also, B series heads are different that D, so he can possibly run into the water jackets and you will be up crap creek.

hmmm, would you actually see any gains from polishing the head and intake manifold? Or would it be unnoticable increase?

just gasket match it and port match it so every thing flows smooth and have him polish every thing and leave the intake side a little rough and make the exhaust side smooth. i think there was a write up somewhere on this website about porting and polishing. you would probably see a slight gain but nothing insane. its always good to have smooth flow though. and what do you plan on using this head for? i.e. boost or n/a/?

You'll see gains, but it wont register on the butt-dyno. Course this also depends on what else has been done to the motor...a stock motor might see 3hp max with a polish...throw some cams and rev it higher maybe 5ish. But for another hours work it will flow better which will be a few hp and maybe a .1mpg increase.

Its just for an autox car. With intake, header and exhaust, might throw in a different cam.
