I'm ready to be done w/my ls/vtec. Please help.
So, my ls/vtec is all installed and now I can't get vtec to engage. CEL 21 (vtec solenoid) was on. New solenoid and it went away. I thought well, maybe it'll work now. So, I take it out for a spin and when vtec should've engaged I got another code. CEL20 (electric load detector).
Now this last one boggles me. Never had or heard of this before. Need some help on fixing this one. I have no idea where to start.
Are the sensors that I need to replace? Or, do I need to buy a grounding kit? What? Please.
I have a b16a2 head and a P28 ecu if it makes a difference. OBD1 too.

Out of curiousity, how did you go about dealing with the knock sensor? Did you just install it or did you revamp the ecu?
Tried the grounds that I knew of. Battery, valve cover, tranny, etc...
Is there a fuse or something that might be bad, or a sensor?

Anyone else have this problem? Come on, I need some help. My vtec isn't engaging, and I'm wondering if it's from this problem. Any ideas on fixing it?
could be bad selenoid or bad wiring.. check the pin for the vtec selenoid and make sure the wiring is right.. a buddy of mine had a similar problem and it was a bad vtec selenoid

I guess it could be. I was throwing a CEL 21, so I changed the solenoid and it went away, but then this CEL 20 threw after I changed it. Only does it when I get it to where vtec should engage.
Bad ecu burn/rom? I had that problem with one of my ECU ROMs, tried another one and it worked. If you have a chipped ecu, an ecu burner is a good investment.
i would check the pin and wire going to the selenoid first, thats the VTS wire. Next i would check the vtec pressure sensor wire, the VTM wire. Make sure both are getting good connection with the ecu and their appropriate sensor/selenoid.
Well, still no luck. I checked the wires from the solenoid and on the ecu plugs. All good. I changed chips in my ECU. Still throwing CEL 20 and Vtec isn't working. I'm getting discouraged now.

Come on guys. Anyone else ever had this problem and fixed it? I also can't get Vtec to engage and am starting to wonder if this is causing my problem. I thought Vtec would still engage according to some people even thought I'm throwing CEL 20, but it's not. Can CEL 20 cause other problems, like not letting Vtec engage and causing the idle to do weird things?

im baffled dude... ive been thinking about it since i started reading and i have no idea. i wish i could help. this time im stumped. i hate that
Same problem I'm having. I'm gonna hate to take it to a dealership to have them diagnose. Cha-ching. Sucks. I have a sheet that has a few steps that lists how to troubleshoot the issue. I'm going to try that later this week. Basically, it says start at the battery and go from there.
