Default After timing belt change, V-tec sound change

after changing the water pump and timing belt, i notice the vtec sound a little quite than usual. Before vtec usually pull right at 5,000 rpm and it would pull hard enough to snap my head back. Now it'll kicks @ 5,200 rpm with a low vtec shriek. I did align it tdc with the cam gears and pulley mark. Or did it has to be perfect? any ideas would be helpful. cuz i dont want to run it abnormal.. thanks

If you didn't line up TDC you would defently know about it, the car would sound like crap and you could possibly hear your pistons hitting your valves. So its not that...other than that i can't help ya with the vtec late engage though.

i did line it as close as i can. but the thing is that there is no pointer on the cover to line it with the pulley mark. I line it on the pointer of the flywheel but putting the belt back on cause it to slightly move. So when u guys line up the cams gears..do u guys line it up straight as it looks straight to you then put on the belt?

Sounds like you need to redo it. You're probably off somewhere, I had a bolt drop into the timing belt before and made the crank skip a tooth. Couldn't figure out why my car was pulling so slow in vtec, until I pulled everything apart to change the oil pump and found the crank was off from the cams, being retarded a tooth on the timing belt.

so if skipped only a tooth, would it run like a bit*h where you can notice..for sample.. it would idle like a bit*h. becuz it still idle okay and it runs a little different, cant really tell it gain power or lose power but only thing changes is vtec sound.

That's how mine was. My car idled fine, maybe a few rpm's higher. I couldn't really notice with normal driving, but under full throttle the car lagged as soon as it went into vtec and kept lagging until redline.

Yeah I fixed everything putting the oil pump back in, and it's fine now.

perhaps..did you line the mark on the oil pump pulley to groove on the block mark? i couldnt get a good angle view to align it so i line it as straight as it looks. was wondering if that can cause such problem..
