Default how much for this swap?

I have a 98 civic ex d16y8 (25k miles) engine that will be replacing my worn out d16y7 in my 1998 civic dx.

How much should someone charge me to have this done?

Also need to know: A new (used) tranny will need to be installed as well. I will provide a new clutch disc and pressure plate too. I bought a new ecu (yes, the correct one) and wiring harness. I'm having second thoughts about using my new wiring harness because cant I just run a couple wires to make vtec work?

So, to summerize.

install new engine
install new trans (k4f) and clutch
install new ecu
optional wiring harness.

$350 Plus $230 airfare and hotel

but seriously can you do it yourself?? pretty easy swap.
Your wireharness problem is much easier than you though. It dont make anymore difficult or easier to decide which wireharness to run. They are pretty much the same work involve. I would use a seperate wire to the ecu for vtec wiring and use original wireharness.

I'd rather have a individual do it and me help. No, I cant do it on my own because I lack the tools, garage, and I've never done any swap ever. I'm a puppet for Gods sake!!

$580
I agree about the wiring harness. I might sell the one I bought. Should bring $120 on ebay.

Actually, if your serious....I work at a hotel so that would be free. Something to think about!! Plus I'd do food, beers, whatever.

No food or beer but if you can hook me up with some **wink**wink** hotty in the neighborhood hehe J/K

You cannot work on car at home if you dont have the engine hoist....

you would better off with someone in your area that can help you out. I dont mind giving you a hand if you're here in MN though.

If you have a local board, make a post that you need help and willing ot pay them in return, I am sure something will you help.

It matters what wiring harness he has, if it is a 96-98 EX harness, it will make the swap easier.

I'll be in FL in June about the 26th in Ft Myers. I was planning on renting a car and abusing the holy hell out of it but I could take the civic instead.

If you have all the tools and a hoist and everything i would do it for airfare, a room to stay and food.

But for local people normally its 300 and 100 for extra parts (oils, coolant, hoses, etc, unless they bring me that stuff)

**** i will just tell you how to ******* do it lol... its not that damn hard

This is what u need...

10mm socket
12mm socket
14mm socket
17mm socket
19mm socket
32mm socket

10mm wrench
12mm wrench
14mm wrench
17mm wrench

12mm 12 point socket for flywheel bolts
17mm 12 point socket for flywheel bolts

3/8 Wratchet
Hammer
Needle Nose Pliers
Screw drivers phillips and flat head
Bucket or Pan
Gloves
Engine Lift
Jack Stands

24 pack of soda

I think those were all the tools i used... Air tools are a big ******* help...

So to sum a swap up really quick and easy....

1. Put your **** up on jack stands...
1 1/2. Drain ur coolant, and oil
2. take wheels off
3. Take battery out of car
4. unplug engine harness from engine bay harness..
5. pull the shift linkage out
6. pull all the other **** off ur block (ac, p/s, hoses)
7. pull axles out
8. get lift over car
9. put chain around engine and hook it up to lift...
9 1/2. as chain lifts engine up, remove the bolts to the mounts
10. lift engine out of car
11. set engine down

i think thats it... im too tired to remember anything... hahah then

12. swap tranny, clutch and drop the other motor in...
