Go to the Gallardo vs. Ducati 999 thread and watch the video.
There also was a guy who used to ride in Moto GP who would always get his rear end sideways before turns, he was famous for his riding style. But I forget his name.

Yeah, there was a portion of Faster that talks about Garry's riding style. Others do it too, not as good as Garry does though.

Did you see what he had to go through to get that technique down?
If that's not trial and error, I don't know what it.

Throttle control will keep the rear tire from spinning
Motorcycle drifting, otherwise known as "speedway".

Only difference is that these guys are actually racing, unlike the drifting popular in magazines these days.

Did anyone see Corser in like round 4 or 5 this year? He knew he had the win in the bag, and the last few laps he really let the rear hang out. They showed some glimpses of his crew, they looked nervous as hell.
Anyway riding in the rain can be fun, as long as it is warm out. I wouldn't say it is going to bite you in the ***, it is definitely controllable. I do it every now and then on my bike, but the again, my SV650s power is probably a little more managable in the rain than an R1.

You don't try to 'drift', it's more like trail braking in a car.
