DASH BOARD REPLACEMENT...VIN NUMBER???
okay just picked up a new(used) dash board cause mines had cracks in it..when replacing it what do u guys do about the vin..should i replace the vin number with mines..what do i do..???thanks for the help guys..
Most of the time we do (ya know, particularly with those ED/EH chassis, when you've got that blue dash and you swap it for a black one... lol), and it's easy enough so why not. I've ****'d up a few VINs before, slipping with the drill while removing the rivets, and so not moved the original over and it's never been a problem. Just take your time, carefully drill the rivets out, the pop some new ones in... you should be fine.
place a couple layers of duct tape on top of the vin before you drill it out.... this way if you slip theres still chance of the vin surviving.

this is what i did and it came out perfect and i even used the original rivet.
your dash - cut little slots on the dash with a dremel and slide it out.
new dash - drill the the rivets out and just slightly enlarge the 2 vin holes.
now all you need to do is push your vin in and it will fit snuggly. it will look stock and no one can tell.
good luck.

I just drilled out the old one and riveted it to the new dash. Took a few minutes and I didn't even think twice about it... heh.
I used a dremel to cut part of the rivits off the back. The old rivits slid right off the front....didn't even scratch the VIN plate. Then I used a regular rivit gun and rivits from Home Depot. Looks just like it came from the factory. You have to have the dash off of course.
