So my friend has a JDM Type R swap in his 00 Civic Coupe. He recently purchased an ANR header and as we were replacing the stock type R header, we noticed that we couldn't find an exhaust manifold gasket that fit. We held it up next to a Civic Si gasket and it was bigger than that. We then held it up next to a GSR gasket, but the bolt holes didn't match up. What gasket should he try??

So here comes the problem... after the header was on, we noticed that once you hit VTec, not much power was there, but once he hit like 7500rpm, it sat you right back. So their was actually a power loss in the mix there, because with the stock header, he had power right from VTec.

EDIT: Also, he dynoed before he got his Spoon cams, exhaust, and header and actually since then, lost 15hp. So something is going wrong, and we've run out of ideas on what to check.

We tried replacing the o2 sensor thinking that maybe it was bad and making him run a little rich and throwing timing off a bit, that wasn't it, we just tested it out.

So right now, I'm thinking that with the stock manifold gasket on there, it's not crimped down the right way (because it's reused) and it's leaking a bit... Is it possible to lose power that way? Can an o2 sensor mess things up like that? Maybe the o2 sensor harness is bad?

I think you need a new gasket. you could probably get away with reusing the old one if it was on the same header. Your o2 cant kill your power that badly without a cel first. The only other thing I can think to check is to make sure the timing belt didn't skip a tooth on the cam gear at some point.

we used the stock gasket, but it's pretty compressed, and it sounds like it's leaking a bit. So we need to get a new one.

What gaskets are people using with the Type R swap?

sorry to say but you are something special. Have you even checked the light to see what it said. For all i know is all b series exhaust gasket are all the same.

 

buy a type r exhaust gasket from acura. Thats a good place to start. 15 hp would be a lot to loose from a exhaust leak around a gaskets. Have you looked at any dynos of the anr header? Do other people have the same loss? Are you using any form of air/fuel tuning device?

That's next probably. Or see if autozone or one of those places have it. Also, he is using an Apexi VAFC.
