Default thinking of stripping the rex...opinions

well im thinking of taking the plunge and completely stripping the crx. its pretty much a track car now anyway. im talking about ripping everytihng out. pull the dash (and put it back in), rip out the heater, heater core, ac core, blower fan, and everything else i dont need under there, also the carpet, pass seat, all paneling everywhere. only thing is that i still drive it to and from the track so i'll probably leave a radio and door speakers, lol. im just wondering how much louder the car is gonna be. will it be unbareable? basically all im gonna have left is the drivers seat, door panels, door speakers, dash and cluster, radio, and floor tar til i can get around to removing it.

opinions?

I say if you are going to make it a dedicated track car then go for it if not then leave the interior. If you do strip it I want first dibs on your interior if you sell it please.

for a track car, yes. I gutted my HF as a daily driver, except for heater and radio, and i wouldnt do it to another car.

honestly, the stock dash without the stock interior pieces just looks out of place... I'd make a custom one out of cf or something. earplugs are your freind.

Headphones prolly not the best Idea while driving. especially in a crx where one miss of someones horn honk and you're dead

yea cd player and headphones is a big no. wearing headphones while drving is a bad idea. really the only reason im gonna leave the door panels is 1) they are a bitch to get off and 2) my drivers door was originally white and i dont feel like looking at that ****, lol

and about taking the heater out, when i take the core out, what do i do about the coolant lines on the engine, just loop the back hose to the core up to the head where the linee from the core goes??

when i took out my interior to go racing, and then stopped racing so i had to drive the car on the street, i hated it.

but then again, i hate the loudness of my completely stock crx.

if youre really going to gut, then at least keep the dash and heater core. youll probably still need the heat, but even more practically for a track car, its your reserve radiator. turning it on high heat and using the blower helps cool the radiator fluid.

For a DRIVER give it ONE hot *** day without interior or A/C
you'll quickly change your mind

I kept burning my arm against the door pull

I orginally took out the door panels becuase they were cracked faded and 80's porno blue.

Now that I've had some time in it like that, I'm cleaning up the door panels and getting them ready for rewrapping

Porno SHAGG velour just for kicks

well i started on it. i got almost everything ripped apart, but im having a hell of a time getting the damn dash out. i got the ac evaporator out, the blower fan out, radio and heatrer controls out, guage cluster, seats, entire rear interior, almost everything. i had to shove it all back in the car really quick cause it started raining, so im gonna work on it more tomorrow.

tomorrow if i can get the freaking dash out im gonna pull the heater core, and everything else under there i dont need like the firewall mat, and ducts and stuff. anyone know exactly where all the bolts are to get the dash out of a crx?

and stock dash is staying for now, aluminum will come eventually. i currently am just dragging the car, but i wanna start doing some hpde's but theres no tracks close to me

From someone who has been there and done it-be very careful of what you are planning to do. If you don't have the rulebooks (SCCA and NASA), which are online-get them. Read very carefully what you are allowed for the class or type of event you plan to do.

As an example-our CRX is a track only car. The dash is stock, the heater is still in the car-required. The interior is alomst completely removed. I built an ITA/H4 car and the passenger window must stay in the car. The drivers window can only be removed IF there are NASCAR bars in the door. The heater controls MUST stay along with the blower and ductwork for the heater. Even the hoses and valves must remain. All wiring harnesses must stay in the car. This is the way the class rules are written. If you are looking at Production racing or even Solo-you will need to review the rules for those events. Track day events are very different and you can run most anything that passes tech for safety. Very important for a track car is the configuration of the rollcage-read what you should have as the rules call for very specific things.
SCCA/NASA and PDA for example all have HPDE events now. If you are new to this you will need a passenger seat, belts, etc..
Got Q's-drop me an e-mail and I'll try to help.
Good luck

he doesnt care. stop it with the rules.

i mean, if he was doing any sort of forward thinking, he wouldnt gut the car. so why bother mentioning rules he doesnt even care about.

summit point is in west virginia, an hour away from DC.

im not looking to professionally race this car. its just my toy for now. i have no rollcage, im not fast enough to need one. im confused as to why i need to leave the heater controls and heater core. whats the logic behind that rule?

the only road racing im gonna do is HPDE and i havent even started yet. no competition. only competition i do is drag, and thats only cause it only costs 25 bucks, lol. seats, glass, seatbelts, dash, guagecluster, door panles and everything on the doors is staying. everything else is commig off. once i get the dash out, that huge rubber mat on the firewall is comming off, heater core is comming out, then the dash is going back in, but i might just say screw it and leave the heater core for now cause the dash is seriously a bitch to take off.
