Default Battery question

I charged my battery recent with a tickle charger, how can I tell if the battery is holding the charge? Would I have to ride my bike for a while before anything happens?

I did that before and it died on me. That time I only charged it for 1 hour though. Could that be the reason?

If the battery is new, then I've heard anywhere from 6-10 hours for a full charge. Or it could just be time to replace it....
