I'm posting this here because this particular e-mail address is only used for selling parts on H-T. Shortly after putting a couple of items up for sale, I started getting German spam. It's now 50+ per day. One of the sender's e-mail addresses was listed as being my own, and I don't see how this is possible.

Is it a bad idea to list my e-mail address in the posts without doing something like xxxx_NO_SPAM_@xxxx.com? Has anyone else had this problem?

yea did those guys offer good deals he sent me a check for 4500 for my b16 which i was selling for 2500 he let me keep 1000 and all i had to do was send him 1000+the motor


it was a good deal




my bank just called their check seemed to have bounced

and i just sent them the motor

not German Spam, but spam in general, Yes. ever since I started posting here, (i was lurking for a while), i now get spam for "OEM Software". etc...and like 4 or 5 per day. it's sooo annoying. i also changed my e-mail address here to another address so that I could track it, and sure enough...those same type of e-mails come to both addresses now. some of the e-mails might be nothing more than "good day" in german or some other gibberish. some of them might be full color picture advertisements. i think it's a bad idea to even have your e-mail address in your profile or any posts over here. there are obviously not enough safeguards built into h-t to prevent anonymous bots from ganking user's private e-mail addresses and selling/proliferating them across the internet.

 

Thankfully my work has a spamblocker, I get all kinds of Viagra ads, other drug ads, pirated software solicitation, etc but it gets held in a file I just have to go in like once a week and delete it all. Definitely get a spamblocker, it rules!

 

This is the reason I don't list my e-mail address in my profile. It doesn't really bother me because it goes directly to my junk folder, but it's still very bizarre. I've forgotten most of the German I learned years ago, but it doesn't take a knowledge of the German language to understand what "Multi-Kulturell=Multi-Kriminell" means. The thing that's most disturbing is that they were able to somehow send an e-mail to me with my EXACT e-mail address in the "from" column. If this is possible, then couldn't they also send e-mails to others with my e-mail address, then someone opens it, thinking it's me, and some trojan horse is installed on their machine? This is my biggest concern.

 

yup got all that spam too, but itz on my work email addy.

OMG I GOT SCAMED?!!?!?!??!?!

 

i get like 200 of these a day. no joke either. i want to visit each of these viagra distributors and shove all of the pills up their ***

i spend at least 10 minutes sifting through e-mails to delete them all

You got some spyware on your pc, it reads whatever you do and the sites you go to, it stores the e-mail addresses you send stuff to (and your own) then when you go online it transmits it to the spam people who then drown you in crap. And FYI, the scenario you mentioned about them using your e-mail to send viruses DOES happen! It happened to me once, some stranger wrote me up cursing me and going nuts blaming me for ruining his hard drive with a nasty virus that came from my e-mail, I never sent him anything though and didn't know him...
You need to get a Spybot search & destroy program or some such thing to remove all that stuff, you can't remove it on your own.

 

yeah i got that ish for a couple days... like 40 a day, each time i just added all to spam. so far i have not recieved any. been 4 days deutche free

What you just said obviously concerns me, but there's no way it applies to me now. I have a fresh, clean install of XP Service Pack 2 and all the updates with 3rd party firewall, anti-virus, 2 different anti-spyware programs, and "hijack this." My system is clean.

 

I guess you're like David Hasselhoff, the Germans want to show you some love!

ive been getting crazy german spam emails here at work. i havnt given my address out to anyone, but posted it up on h-t and now im getting about 50-60 of these a day. its ******* annoying!
