Wilwood Brake Kit For R
I wanted to get a brake kit for the R and do not want to spend for un-needed JDM bling (Spoon, Mugen, Endless) I was told that Wilwood does not make a direct bolt on kit that will fit under VR CE28n's (16).
I found a company that will customize a Wilwood kit to fit and what some expert opinions from H-T.
(I have attached the info I recieved thus far
Thank you for your inquiry to Precision Brakes Company. Wilwood
does not make a kit that will clear under the 16" wheel you mentioned below.
We could however Custom build the kit for you with 11.75" rotors to clear
the 16" wheel with Wilwood 4 Piston Forged Dynalite calipers. For right
around $1199.00 with 2pce rotors, brackets, pads, hardware, calipers and
stainless steel braided lines with instrux.
See attached picture of similar kit!!

Interesting. Didn't know you had to run Willwood pads with Willwood clappers. Other than that it seems like a pretty good deal compared to the Spoon, Endless and AP Racing packages.
I thought fastbrakes had a bolt-on kit using wilwood calipers.....
I'm interested in upgrading the rear brakes... did you get any info on that?

Hawk (I think its HB237, but not sure), EBC (DP2038), KVR (not sure of part #), as well as others all make pads for that caliper and other Wilwood calipers.

Well this is the message I recieved from Fastbrakes.com
The Wilwood 12.2" 4 piston kit MAY clear the Volk rims. The TE-37 rims would
probably clear but I'm not sure on others. You need approx 1.9" from the hub
mounting surface of the wheel to the back side of the spokes and approx
13.75" inside diameter of the wheel where the caliper will sit.
You can get some better measurement info from the Wilwood website under the
brake kits section. The kits for the RSX are under the Dynalite big brake
front hat kits. Click on the highlighted line and the instructions will come
up. There is a diagram in the instructions with clearance dimensions...

I dont know about the size of the caliper itself, but the pad surface area is infact a bit smaller. Although the pad surface area is smaller, the total piston area is greater than that of OEM.

From the info I have pieced together thus far, I think the stock wilwood kit will clear stock R rims without issue, however, I am not entirley sure.
E-mail these guys - sales@fastbrakes.com and / or info@precisionbrakescompany.com

Before you purchase the Wilwood, MAKE SURE you check out the prices for the replacement of their 2-piece rotors. IIRC they are not cheap and as you know brake rotors are wear item. You might spend less now, but you would end up spending more - a lot more - in a long run.

Good point. I guess they will not work with any other rotor....
What about Spoon Calipers, can they be used with generic pads and non-Spoon rotors?

Yeah, Spoon calipers will go on stock ITR rotors and can use OEM pads I believe. Please correct me if im wrong, but I'm pretty sure on that.

Another option to consider might be the KVR Python 4-pot caliper. It's about half the price of the spoon and can use stock rotors (does not use OEM pads).

Yes. You can use any pad designed to fit stock itr calipers as spoon uses the same pad footprint... Any oem size rotors and slightly bigger will fit under the spoon calipers as well... including floating hat models.....

I was kind of rushed when I mentioned the KVR calipers before, so I will give a lil more info:
They are a 1 piece aluminum design, and the caliper itself bolts onto the factory locations (no other brackets needed). The pad is almost identical to the one shown in the picture above-- the pad surface is the same, the only difference is the shape of the metal backing. It uses the OEM rotor, or any aftermarket rotor of the same size. The clamping force is great, with great control, modulation, and feel. In all honesty, its comperable to the spoon calipers at half the cost. When it comes time to get new pads for them, Pegasus Racing is the place to go. Just thought I would give you another option.

Thanks... I will look into them... I think KVR is a Canadian company to boot. If I end up going with the Wilwood Kit which rotor design will work best for spirited street driving....

I got the 11.75" front Fast Brake Kit for my H1 car
These are the Superlight calipers. I think the ones pictured above are the smaller Ultralights (don't use them on an ITR).
Also notice the rotors of Brian's kit has the extra holes in it for lighter weight and better cooling.

Brian also set me up with rear brakes.

they say that you can these brakes on wheels as small as 15" (for WRXs). I dont know about for Type Rs but they use the stock rotors for WRXs. These wouldnt fit under the stock wheels?
