Is this some redneck shop or someone that knows what they are doing? I only ask because I am also from MS.

My ZC did the exact same thing when I dropped it in with the timing off.

my b18a1 did that when i first dropped it into my crx. the timing was off a tooth.

the way to tell?:
get a timing light. autozone has them.
hook it up and put the light on your crank pulley. if the lines don't match up or are very very close with the distributor set directly in the middle, then your timing IS DEFINATELY OFF and needs to be fixed.

hey i juss did this swap into my crx, and it runs successful no problems. I've been a honda mechanic for 2 years now, and ive seen this sorta thing...i can't really pin point your problem, but i can give you sum idea's...the main relay, controls the fuel pump, so if it is intermitant, it could be that. unplug the connector that plugs into the pump, and check the ground, and make sure it isn't faulty our nething. I don't know those are juss sum ideas, thats wur id start, but yea....since you already took it to a mechanic im sure he already checked that stuff...juss a thought.....
good luck man...

I would check the tps sensor. Did you wire the tps correctly (reversing the outside wires)?

Perhaps you have some sort of injector problem. Use some known working ones and see if that solves the problem.

DId you check your injectors? When you floor it if they are bad it will cause them to drip instead of spray like they should. Giving you the effect your getting.
