map sensor
i have a 1st gen b16a, and the tps was broken when i recieved it. So i go to a junkyard to look for another one and find that all the USDM cars all have the tps riveted on them. One of my questions is where do you get another, one of my freinds suggested taking off the one on my d16a, I also called the dealership, who said i would basically have to buy another tb, which came out to be $600. The last question i have is what exactly is the map sensor and where is it located on a 91 civic si. From my understandings when swapping in the b16a, it is wise to use a map sensor from an ls, but im not for sure. I know my car is acting up now so im assuming swapping the motor wont make this problem go away. ANy reponse is helpful.
thanx,

1. Use the one of the d16a6 you have or pull a throttle body off a 4th gen Si at the yard and use the tps off of that.
2. The map sensor is on the firewall above your fuel filter. It is on the passenger side of the car right under the hood. I'll see if I can pull up a pic.

On the TPS you have to slot the rivets with a dremel or something to get it off. You can use the one from your old motor too. Its setting it thats a bitch sometimes.
The MAP sensor on a 91 should be on the firewall near the throttle body. It should have the same plug that the TPS has, with three wires coming out of it.

I circled the whole thing back on the firewall, but the map sensor is the one in the middle. There are some other things there but I am pretty sure the map sensor is in the middle.
MAP = manifold absolute pressure sensor. Basically its reading the amount of pressure in the intake manifold I guess to determine how much fuel needs to be delivered along with the reading of the TPS sensor. Some sort of crazy algorithm that Honda uses I assume

Dremel to the rescue!!!!!!! And there's really no need to replace the MAP, unless you suspect it's bad, in which case you would have been receiving a check engine light and code pointing to the MAP sensor among other things. If you're looking for a replacement, stick to Si models, or integs.
