Trade my mustang for an Accord?
I've been driving my 1990 mustang for about 2 years, and I am pretty sick of it. Its not a bad car, its just not what I want. Its a 2.3L Automatic, with all the fancy junk, like power locks, windows, mirrors, steering, cruise, sunroof. I was offered a trade for a 1988 Accord LXi, 2 door coupe. Its got power windows/locks etc. Both cars run well, but the accord is a 5 speed, which I greatly prefer. Anyways, is this a worthwhile trade? I don't know much about accords, and thought people here might be able to give me some advice. Heres some pictures of the mustang (they're really dirty in these shots, I'll try to take some more tommorow.

Why not!!! if you're tired of your Mustang then go with the Accord or your desired choice. If I were you, I wouldn't trade it coz I can't drive Stick Shift

well.
both of them are worth the same thing, if their milage is about the same. neither are fantastic or amazing cars.
I would trade just for that fact that the 2.3L in that mustang, though it is small, probably eats gas like a bastard.
where the 1.8L in the accord is amazing on gas.
honestly, they are probably about the same power wise too. Mustangs are heavy, and from my understandning, that 2.3L is supposed to be slow as sin.
I would trade for sure, no doubt in my mind. I would rather have an old steady accord that a ghetto old, heavy, slowass Mustang.

The accord has the 2.0L. The fact that the 2.3L in the mustang was designed for the Ford Ranger, it has more low end torque, and not much speed at all. Combine that with the auto tranny and the heavy *** car, and I have no mileage and no power. My mileage is actually worse then in the 2005 V-8 mustangs, and I have hundreds less hp. I love manuals, they're quicker, more fuel efficient, and less likely to break down. Plus I think automatics sound just silly with aftermarket exhaust. The mustang only has about 124k, the accord about 160. Thanks for the replies, I think i'll do it.
I'll get some pics in here when I do, if everything works out.

Call your insurance agent, you might be saving some money on liability insurance (you shouldn't be carrying collision or probably even comprehensive on a car that old).

Something must be wrong. OTOH, the few people I've known with 4-cyl mustangs have had manual trannys.

Actually, the higher mileage of the Accord might make it worth less. You might be able to get some money along with the swap??
1988 & 1990 are both old enough so you should probably get a mechanic to look at it.
Pics of the Accord would be more useful here, since maybe(??) we can point out any trouble spots.

The accord is owned by a mechanic.
The mustang has one major problem, and that is every once in a while, there is a major power loss, and black smoke comes out, but if I give it more gas, it goes away. It really doesn't matter anyways, as he is buying the mustang to put a 5.0 in it. He's also making up for the fact that the mustang is newer and nicer looking by paying all the registration fees (aside from titles changes, the accord has out of state plates.) I'm gonna have my friend with me when I check out the car, he's a honda guy, hes got a 97 Civic (although I think he got ripped off... its a 1997 civic DX no power ANYTING not even steering and he paid 7k) The condition bodywise is similar with both cars, both have a cracked light somewhere, (my front corner light, the accords taillight) both have other minor dings and junk. I'll get pics of the accord up when I can.

The first thing I would do before I got it would be let a mechanic take a look at it like Jim said. If you are going to be trading a mechanically sound car for one that is not then that is not a good trade.

sounds like a mechanic has been looking at it for a long time.

I would trade it in a heartbeat. I just left the J-Body world for my 93 Honda Accord EX 4-door. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! To top it off I am gettin rid of my 2004 Cavalier for this ride. I hate the Cavy and don't even drive it anymore. The Honda gets great gas mileage and no car payment.
My Honda cost me $1000 and it still books for $2550 as fair condition. I got her to turn it into a restoration project. All I can say right now is eBay! LOL
Enjoy your Honda if you decide to trade and trust me you won't be sorry.
Plus welcome to the site.
