What to do about the vin on a dash swap?
take out the one u have on your car, take out the one on the black dash, put yours in black dash
if u cant figure that out u really should be swapping dashes, thats commen sense

for all intents and purposes yes it is legal. You are not changing the VIN, you are changing the dash. The problem arises with that that VIN plate is attached to the dash.
You would be in even bigger trouble if you swapped the dash and had the wrong VIN or no VIN. At least this way, when the cop looks in, he will see the correct VIN.

Honestly, I wouldnt think twice about crossing that over to the new (replaced dash).
From a selling/buying point, you have it for comfort.
From a pulled over stand point, you do not want to be there if the cop sees no VIN, he wont care what papers you have - he will think it is stolen.
From an inspection standpoint - that is usually where they check.
I do not believe there is any law saying not to swap the vin over, probably because this doesnt come up frequently enough.
