CRV Shuts off while driving...restart immediately
I searched on this...found nothing. My 98 CRV shuts off while driving; no particular speed, load or no load, no sputtering..."clean" shut off, put the car in neutral (while coasting) restarts fine and will drive fine forever. It has done this 3 times in the last 2 months. Igniter? Usually you have to wait for it to cool down before it'll restart, right? Coil? Usually when a coil quits...it is "done", right? Has no trouble codes. I would by a new ignitor, but at 200 bucks, that's an expensive "guess". Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
this still happens to my gfs accord. we replaced the ignition switch, the coil, the whole distributor and it still does it randomly.
A main relay going bad will cause this too. On accords and CRV's..Hell Ive seen it on many hondas when I used to work for them. Only way to fix this intermittent problem is usually a main relay/ignitor/ and coil replacement...Some cars fall under a recall to have there ignition switch replaced...

That's what it sounds like.

Thanks people, looks like the relay is the cheapest part, I'll start with that. Went to eBay, they call it a Main "Fuel" Relay....same thing???
Also, I looked under the hood...didn't see it. Can someone tell me where it's located?
eBay part here:----> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=true
EDIT: Just went to Honda.com, ran the VIN, and yes, it has the (02-031) ignition switch recall. Guess I should have checked this first.
Thanks for your help.

The thing with a Main Relay going out is that the heat build up increases resistence and it craps out. Stopping and letting the car/interior cool down will often allow it to restart....not while your coasting immediately after. i would bet strongly that it's not the relay. Also, once they are on the way out it doesn't happen over months. I'd bet that it's your ignition switch and I believe your car falls under the campaign. Before you spend a dime call your local dealer and give them your VIN. They will tell you if fall under it.
Suspecting ignition switch problem, can I replace it with a cheap keyless engine ignition start/stop button starter power switch and solve the issue?
Thank you
Ron
