Default Radiator replacement

I have a 2000 GSR about 96k miles. Should I have the radiator changed?

I wouldn't unless your having overheating issues. Even then it may not be neccesary to do. If you have a ton of upgrades then maybe you could look at upgrading.

i wouldn't change it unless it starts leaking or if you are having overheating problems like Above6k said. Mine started leaking from the bottom plastic tank like two weeks after i bought my teg, and i just changed it out with a cheap oem replacement. if or when that happens to you a good upgrade would be an all metal radiator instead of the crappy oem aluminum/plastic tank style one which will start to leak again at some point. it a common problem amoung integras.

Interesting. Yes, i heard the OEM radiator only last about 5 years minimum.

I just want to make sure that i dont' blow the head gasket for a cheap investment of a radiator. Rather then buying a new head gasket because i didn't have the radiator replaced.

no need to waste money at the current moment, if you radiator still works fine. You dont necessarily need a aluminum radiator, but it depends on your plans in the future. Other than that, most places offer lifetime warrenty on those plastic ones

dont change it unless it breaks. integras usually need a new radiator at around 110k because they leak. so unless urs is leaking or ur engine is overheating, then dont touch the radiator. if it aint broke, then dont fix it.

even if your radiator starts to leak it probably would not cause your car to overheat right away unless it has a major leak in it. the leak in mine was just a seep, and i drove to work and back (a 65 mile commute) for like a week or two before i changed the radiator. i just checked the fluid level and kept adding coolant into the overflow res . if your car is overheating, i would check the thermostat first before the radiator. if it starts to leak it is quite obious cause it leaves coolant everywhere. as it was, my thermostat was stuck partially open too, so my car never came close to overheating. i changed both the thermostat and the radiator at the same time, and it was really no big deal, it took me no more than a few hours.

Damn you are lucky. Mine went out @ 85K. Since your rad is fine I would worry about other maintenance things. If you dont mind spending the extra $$$ then I would order an all metal rad. from http://www.radiatorbarn.com . It is dual core, works three times better, and it will last the life of the car
