Default Newbie here...Need help badly on how to replace my Starter on my 87 ACCORD LXI

Can any experts in here walk me through, or give me a tutorial on how to replace my Starter on my 87 ACCORD Lxi. When I turned on my car, it won't start at all. Engine's trying to start, but no luck. Battery is new, radio/cd and all lights is working. I'm pretty sure it's not the Alternator, because I tried to cable jump and after 10mins or so, still it won't start up; not only that but I've just replaced my Alternator 4 months ago.

Please can anyone tell me the basic on how to replace it? I'm really sorry for my clueless actions here. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

David

yeah when the starter goes nothing happens you dont hear anything.

but if you think its the starter do this

you will need two ppl one trying to start the car and the other with a hammer.
while you are trying to start the car have the other person tap on the starter it should start.

deserthonda, THEROPE & JimBlake,

Much thanks to you all, I really am appreciated your helps. I did tried everything you guys mentioned, I even replaced my cap, cap's rotor, main relay, spark plugs, spark plug's wire, put some "fuel injector cleaner" on, check all my fuses, and check my fuel pump --> it seems to be working fine. Anyways, I found out that it was my ECU in the end, and so I went to a Junk Yard and was able to get an ECU for my car and now it's running and able to start again. Much thanks to all your recommendations and helps.

Anyways, I have 2 more questions for you experts in here. Whenever I started up my car, the idle seems to go up and down -- meaning my engine would rev up and down for at least 2 or more minutes then it'll eventually comes down and stays normal. Any idea or feedback for me to fix this? Please...!! your help is greatly appreciated. Oh this issue is way before the "I am unable to start up my car issue and after still mis-idle now" - so any recommendations?

Secondly, if I drived my car for like 30mins or something and I stopped my car and left the engine on, after 1 or 2 minutes, it will go on again with the "idle" like up and down on the RPM, then suddenly my "PGM-FI" check light will come up. Any idea on how to fix these 2 known issues? Again your help is "SUPER SUPER GREATLY" appreciated. This forum ROCKS.....!!!

Thanks in advanced,

Davidxx

@Vanilla Sky,

Can you "please" tell me how to do it? Please any recommendations is greatly appreciated. My wife lost my "manual book," thus, am now clueless. Is there somewhere I can adjust the idle? Thanks for your help in advanced.

at the back of trottle body there is a fast idle valve it has a cap and 2 phillip screws , remve screws, remove cap. in valve there is a black plastic valve with notches get a screwdriver and turn that in as far as it will go i have seen those get loose many many times and makes idle surge especially after car is first strted ..
clear the ecu and restart car if chk engine lite comes again
read and post codes here

Desert's probably talking about #8 (fast idle valve)?

That thing is also confused by air pockets in the cooling system. It's got 2 hoses with coolant flowing thru, so when an air bubble comes thru it can act up.

Vanilla might be talking about #12 on here, the idle-up vavle? Maybe that's the ancestor of the IAC valve that can cause surging idle in newer Hondas?

Don't forget to look for vacuum leaks.

yo jim old buddy thanks for coming up with all these nice pics yes indeed i am talking about fast idle valve # 8 on the first picture ,,see the cover on top above # 2?? remove 1 screw and loosen the other swing the cover over , inside there is a plastic valve that comes loose thus it will make idle surge especially when first starting car up anyho, get a screwdriver and tighten that valve , put all together and hopefully it is the source of your problem....another thing make sure you are not low on coolant
