DC5 Type R Transmission...
I am planning to buy one this summer. I am doing an auto to manual swap... finally. Anyway. Would it bolt on to my car? I have the base... obviously since I said auto. I am just making sure. You guys know?

If you plan on doing the auto to manuel swap you might as well swap it with a ITR motor. at least with a ITR motor you can run it hard all day long and not worry about it. Hybrid motors work well but they don't have OEM reliablilty. just my 2 cents.

Yea it might be cheaper... but I hate auto lol. I'm gonna do the tranny w kpro at the same time tho. The motor is too expensive...
I'm still only 17 I cant afford that yet.

might as well endure the auto for now and then when you have enough money do everything at once.
Because it'll add up to a lot anyhow, just think about the dc5r tranny being at like ~1900, kpro ~1000, and usually with used trannies, it's just best to replace the clutch while you have the thing out so another ~300.
If you just save up and do everything at once, it'll be a lot less hassle with taking apart the car.

Sounds like you need to do a lot more research about this before you go buying a transmission just because its from Type R. Having a mismatched engine and transmission sounds like a lot of headaches waiting to happen. Also, there are plenty of differences between your motor and a Type S, and even more with the Type R. If money is tight, I suggest you trade your base in for a used Type S.

That is one of the reasons I made this thread. Also it isn't like I dont know anything about it I was just asking if it would fit ok. Like someone already said, they have a closer ratio transmission which I like. Anyway, I have heard plenty of times about trading my car in for a type s ect... but I really cant so I accepted what I have for being 16... now 17

I really dont have anything else right now that interests me... and it is worth modifying IMO.. the k20 has a lot of potential.
Someone tell me the pros and cons of the trannys:
1. Base/EP3 Tranny
2. S Tranny
3. ITR Tranny

You should just save your money -- invest it so you can get something better later.
Doing such a tranny swap will depreciate your car by a lot.
1. Base and EP3 trannies are different.
Base has longer gear ratios - used in boosting sometimes. Hardly see any Base RSX trannies, ppl who usually get the RSX, spend a little more for the RSX-S.
EP3 - has shorter gearing and has the ITR FD.
2. Nothing wrong with the S tranny but it's just a stepped down version of the ITR tranny. k20a2 had a lower FD (4.3 or something, not too sure) and k20z1 has the ITR fd.
3. Someone stated the pros of it. Comes with LSD. It's kinda expensive.
And don't forget you'll need a junkyard car or something to get all the shift linkages, slave cylinder, clutch pedal, manual ECU.
And if you're **** about your car, another gauge cluster.
I wouldn't do it, but it's your car.
EDIT: Look at the post below by agrabau or something. Even he knows putting a 6spd for the base k20a3 is a dumb idea.
