Metal shavings in tranny fluid after quaife install
Well i installed a quaiffe in my y1 cable tranny. I checked everything out: spun the tires on the jack stands and shifted the gears and everything seemed to be fine and spinning freely. So i took it for a test ride for about 30 miles and evertything seems normal. So for the last test i drained the tranny oil and there are metal shavings in the oil. I believe its aluminum so i think maybe i didnt shim the case correctly and the diff. bearing are spinning on the case. What do you guys think? Can you pull the case off with out removing the tranny?
Did you spin the input shaft before installing the tranny (both in and out of gear)? There is a washer on the top of the countershaft with a finger (for lack of a better word) that has to be in the correct orientation or else the shaft binds.
I have shavings in mine too after an ITR lsd install. I can hear a slight "tick"ing noise where the LSD bolts are hiting the case. Also have a whining noise on top of that but looks like i'll have to take it out again.
Sounds like you need to shim the LSD, does yours have a whining noise?
Good luck with it, i dont think you can fix it w/o taking the tranny out

I don't think it is possible. Clearance for removal would be an issue and aligning the main shaft, counter shaft, and shift forks with the case during reassembly would be nearly impossible.
