Default koni yellow install

took my lude to a mechanic to install my koni yellows and springs today. I bought them off someone online a while back. Anyways they say the dont fit, but when I look up one of the struts number on it 8041 1155, it says they are for my 2000 prelude. Am I missing something to install these.

They said the hole was two small on the lude for these. I dont know anything about this kind of sruff (yet). Are there some kind of mounts I need or did I get the shaft? Any input would be awsome. Thanks

mechanics like to make a markup on parts and who can blame them. If you are confident you have the right parts then either take it to another shop or find a friend whos done it before. Its not a hard job, but its not one that you should dive into flying blind either.

Well I called Koni and they said that there strut is a little bigger so you have to drill where the srtut comes through the emgine bay. Iguess its a 10mm and you have to go to a 12mm.

Most places I called said they wouldnt even do this because it could f up what ever they are drilling.

But I know it has been done so is there anyone who has screwed up and is it fixable, or do I put my lude in the hands of someone who could shaft my ride?

Doining it myself isnt really an option, no tools and I have to put the springs on and dont know anyone who has a compressior.

for being a pain in my ***

you also need 17mm. if you are lazy and not having tools, drive stock.

That isnt very nice. First what the **** does lazy have to do with anything? If you dont have anything positive or helpfull to say you should post. You guys that post BS just to get your posts up are a joke.

I like my lude just as much as the next person but when you are getting started you wont have the tools or the know how.

But I guess you were born with the knowledge and the skills.

just fyi, the tools required are not that expensive in case you want to give it a run. those plus a helms manual would cost less than labor at a shop. a friend and a case of beer and you're set. yeehaaa

tools dont cost much. most bolts on hondas are 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, and 19mm. just get those for now. its like couple dollars for each one. then go get a ratchet.

its not that hard to do.

heres a Craftsman Mechcanics tool set and its pretty cheap.

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr...82000

if you have money to buy koni yellows then you have enough money to get a nice tool set. put out like 200-300 for a nice tool set. i got a 264pc set for $200.

why pay a shop the labor money when you can use that for other parts and tools.

btw a jack and jack stand is prolly like $120 or even cheaper.

good luck.

EDIT - heres another one thats even better for $90

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...sting

one more thing. dont get cheap tools because they will break. i broke a couple no name sockets many times.

Dude, have you ever seen a girl works on her car before?

anyhow, it's your car and your $$$, do whatever you want.

maybe they're talking about drilling out the holes in the stock dust boots. since the koni shaft is bigger than stock.

bingo. This shop that I took it to quoted me a price of 120 for all the springs and struts install and they would do an alignment.

Well when I get there they tried to renig saying that they ment for the front only.
I told them why would I only drop the front. so they were like yeah will do it.
Then they called saying they were the wrong struts and they must be for an accord

Anyways Im new to cars dont really have any friends who are into it. most of them arent into this kinda stuff. As for tools I have sum tools like rachets and stuff but I dont have anything to compress the spring and felt for 120 bucks it was worth it to have someone else do it for me. But now starting to see that it is better to do myself. I need to find me some new friends with preludes

I didnt understand this drilling crap either because I searched and didnt see anything on this. I could use help if someone is from Jville FL. and has done this, I really dont want to drill anything that would cause me to never be able to go back to stock. I do apprtiate all the advice and those of you who do everything yourselves I definetly respect

ah, the dustboots were kind of a bitch, but that's because i have the tiniest hacksaw in the world. ain't nothing a dremel and some cutting wheels can't handle, or a bandsaw...should take the shop 1 min per boot.

now that sounds right. drilling the dust covers isnt too hard. when i did mines i used a dremel and it was easy.

the only hard part about installing the koni's was getting that bolt on the bottom back in .
