now i know this is a EG question but before i get flamed for it, this is not my car and am just curious.
my friend has a 94 civic EX with a D16Z6 and P72 ECU
all u guys say "u can 'feel' VTEC kick in and 'feel' the car pull harder" well that doesent happen. i mean absolutily no change. i hooked a scantool up to it and it says it's operating at 4200 RPM. is that correct for a P72?
what could cause this? he has plenty of oil presure. infact we shorted the spool solonoid to +12 and the car ran like ****. like not getting enough fuel.

Sohc vtec will not kick in as strong as the dohc vtec. There should be a difference when vtec does crossover though. Should be a difference in power and noise.
Check the Vtec solenoid. See if that's still good. Also check wiring.

we did. hooked it up to +12 and it ran like ****. besides if there was a wiring problem we would get a CEL witch were not.

You do know that the Z6 is suppose to be running a P28 ecu. The P72 ecu is for the GSR motor (B18C1), not the D16Z6. The p72 is designed to run dohc engines. If it is running the z6 and it is not chipped, there is your problem. If the p72 is chipped and designed to run the Z6 then here is a link you need:

ur right it's a P28 ECU. it's totaly bone stock. i was thinking of P72 when i wrote that
so is 4200 correct for a P28?

No, but 4800 is, and depending on other factors, like throttle percentage, oil pressure, etc. It can be as high as 5200 rpm.
Make sure you aren't throwing codes and check the thread I have in my other post.
