17mm Starter bolt problem
take a look:
I was installing a new starter today, and when I was putting the new starter on, the bottom 17mm bolt started to get really hard to tighten. I didn't think much of it, and started using a lot of force. The bolt broke, and half of the threaded part is now stuck inside my tranny

The top 14mm bolt is holding the starter just fine for now, and the car starts fine, but I'm just worried that later on down the line the starter might jolt loose or something. Is this something to be very concerned about?
Thanks,
Dylan M

I would say thats something to worry about. That bolt is large for a reason. I would suggest getting it drilled and tapped before something worse happens.

I _hate_ people who do hack jobs, especially on a rig they are going to sell!

I can't help that the bolt broke, therefore, it's not a "hack job." Why do you think I'm posting this, I want to fix it jackass. If you saw my car in person you would see that I'm not the type of person who does hack jobs.
BTW, I'm not selling it.

I bought a car that someone had messed up before me. It eventually broke the other ear off the starter. Lots of torque there, if it's not completely tight, my guess is you are going to break the other side of the starter housing. Don't know the correct name for it, but there's a gizmo that you screw into the stud and back it out.

i'm pretty sure he wasn't referring directly to your question. He (and i agree with this) was referring to Prelude951 in saying that if you mess something up, don't just leave it like it is..fix it.

sorry... i was referring that "if you were gonna sell it soon," then your probably leave it alone for someone else's job. But then if not, then fix it. I know hack job sucks and i'd hate to be the other end. Happens to me before so i just thought i'll done the same thing.
