French MotoGP *including spoiler*
Well yet another great race, is there a reason that this sport does not attract the same level of sponsorship and glam as F1, because there is not a single reason I can see. Top notch racing yet again, riders with tenths of each other fighting from the front to the back of the field.
Nikki Hayden yet another dull day, and Max well he did have a bad back, bless. Olivier Jacque and Nakano are showing that the Kawasaki has got pace after all and there #2 rider the street stunting German will be back next round...shame really Jacques is good enough to get a wild card every day of the week.
Rossi's poor start is always everyones gain! Colin Edwards finally got it together but the ride of the day IMO was Puddle of Mudd frontman Gibernau. The mid race pase he had was just incredible. However yet again Rossi on the last lap decided to set a new lap record, just to show his choice of Michelin and his ability was business as usual.
Where wil he go in 07, F1, WRC or perhaps to a boat in Ibeza to entertain a different girl every night just cos he can.
Its legend time.

To see Rossi driving round the outside of people and them having to pick the bike up just to avoid him is amazing. Schumacher and Rossi, we are in good times for legends right now.

Amazing how Rossi is not riding at the full potential of the machine or his abilities unlike everyone else. Legendary indeed.

I've never been so excited about an athlete since Michael Jordan w/the Bulls.

I'd have to say that Valentino, by all means, is the best rider out there. But the reason he makes it look so easy is because he is fortunate enough to have an awesome crew and is blessed with great communication skills w/the ability to decipher priorities. Also, he is very maticulous in his practice and has tremendous discipline. He looks at the big picture during a race and knows exactly what he has to do to shave 2/10ths of a second per lap and just does it.
As for Mladin, compare the times of Superbike versus the times of Superstock. They're not that far off. As a matter of fact, I think recently, the #1 Superstock qualifying time would've placed 3rd in the Superbike grid. That goes to show that the machine he races is nowhere near MotoGP standards. He would be starting all over again much like Hopkins and Hayden. I really don't think he'd be in contention for the championship. At least for a few years.

All that shows is that the laptimes of those classes, in those series', are close. It's not logical to suggest that anything, except the fact that everybody's racing on two wheels, is relevant in a cross-championship discussion without getting into serious specifics.
Mladin's got an impressive ability, no doubt. No big surprise, either, that it's an entirely different ball game in MotoGP - Neil Hodgson showed us that. If anything, he's a good bookmark for how well Mladin might do dicing it up with the likes of Gibernau and Biaggi. Maybe, in the spirit of competition he should take on the challenge, but then again, we should all do well to remember that it's his career and he's got a darn good thing going for him.

Isn't that what I said? Superbikes and GP bikes have nothing in common.

What I got out of what you said was that the MotoGP machines are "better." Which, yeah, they are. The ruleset is so far less restrictive that it would be hard for 'em not to be. But at the same time, 'better' isn't the adjective I'd use - they're different beasts. I don't think it would take too long to get acclimated to a MotoGP bike if you come from a good sized racing background, as Mladin does. The riders there are of such a high caliber, though, it's crazy.
We've all known the Sete isn't quite the rider that Valentino is, and we saw today that that 1/5 of a second is a WORLD of riding ability away... exponentially increasing difficulty and all that.
My bad if I misunderstood you, though, no offense intended.

Mladin has already raced in GP before, for Cagiva when it was a 2 stroke series. Things didn't go so well for him though, he was back on a Superbike after 1 year.

I believe the AMA Superbikes (the Suzuki's at least) are making over 200hp. Granted, on a bike, it's still a big difference (btw. AMA SBK and MotoGP) but those motors are definately making some power.

While I agree he has nothing to prove in his AMA class, I don't think he could jump right into Moto GP and start taking podiums. While he has the ego for it, it's quite a lifestyle change and just that in itself seems to have quite a psychological effect on someone. I'd like to see him step up to WSBK and try his hand there before diving into Moto GP. Beating out everyone by double digit numbers is not really improving yourself.
