Default which flywheel/clutch combo for EF HB Si begginer driver?

Hey guys,

I know this question may have asked so many times.
I been driving stick over a year and my clutch is going.
I have a 1990 civic ef hatch Si with stock D16 with i/h/e
I want to get a lighter flywheel and stage one clutch. preferably performance.
Plan to do a zc swap in a couple of years.

One one my friends told me to go stage 1 ACT/ ACT flywheel on both. Another tells me to go stock.

I'm willing to put in a decent amount of money in for it.
Which stage 1 clutch/flywheel combo do you guys think?
I'm a daily driver with only a year experience on a stick.

the cars not fast so theres no need for a performance clutch expecially if your gonna be swapping. id get stock

a lightened flywheel + performance clutch + beginner driver = stalling all day and wanting a stock clutch

http://www.clutchmasters.com

and 93ejay1 is right.

Learn to drive the car first. I'd get an OEM replacement. Only 1 year and the clutch is bad? You're a bit heavy footed.

never said it was a brand new clutch one year ago. When i first got my car it only took a couple of months for my clutch to go.

cbr1 your much better off resurfacing your flywheel and getting a new oem clutch from honda. You do not have a race car so no need for the performace clutch.

that's right dohcdelsol, I bought the car when the clutch was going and I learned pretty quick since I played around with my friend's car and motorbike.

I been driving around for a year with a clutch that was slipping and I thought it'll be time to swap it out.

The car is pretty light and I dont plan to do a zc swap soon since the engine still has some life in it.

I dont want anything drastic, so i decided to get a good flywheel when the mechanic is doing my clutch ( cheaper labor to do it all at once)
But I want something lighter to make my car go a bit quicker. Also when I do my zc swap in the future, I dont have to worry about changing my clutch and flywheel.
I heard good things about fidanza and ACT.

However, most forums have guys with stage 2/flywheel combos.

Anyone with a 88-91 Si that can recommend a good stage 1/flywheel combo?

Are you listening to anyone? First, as SEVERAL people have already stated, stock is your best bet. A lightweight flywheel won't make your car much faster. You'll be able to shift faster, but beyond that, you won't notice any difference. Second, if you're still determined to buy something non-stock, Clutchmasters was already suggested, and is your best bet as they have great clutches and flywheels. The Fidanza flywheel is basically the same as the CM one. An ACT clutch will NOT be good for you, as it has a very short engagement and a very stiff pedal. You'd be stalling left and right, given your experience, and since your engine is stock, there's no reason whatsoever to have something like that.

Thanks. I'll stick with oem then and resurface my flywheel.
Sorry for being such a noob,
Is there any good aftermarket clutch you can recommend? clutchmasters? exedy?
what you guys think?

wow, thats crazy.
based on everyone's experience i stick with oem. Id thought ill save $$$ on labor but i guess its not worth swapping out the flywheel. o well

how long did u guys take to progress the jump to stage 2? i notice most guys in the other forums have stage 2/flywheel combos . Probably takes a long @$$ time to master the car before progressing to stage 1 /stage2 ...
