Default broke my knock sensor installing hondata gasket...should this effect my idle?

I'm having a terrible day. I pulled my manifold to install a hondata heatshield gasket, and broke the plastic housing and plug off of my knock sensor. When I put everything back together, the idle was surging up and down between 1000-3000RPM.

could this have anything to do with my knock sensor being unplugged/broken?

trying to determine if I screwed something else up or if this is related to the knock sensor. All the vacuum hoses are connected and all the plugs seem to be in place.

TIA

I believe it is due to a vacuum hose that is not hooked up properly on the IM. That happened to me after I did my H22 swap.

ok I fixed the idle. apparently I didn't torque down the nuts on the IM properly . I suck so bad today. sorry guys

so what happens if I drive around with an unplugged KS? is my ecu gonna pull timing or go into limp mode?

How do you feel after you installed the gasket? Feel any gain or decrease in temp under the hood?

the gasket doesn't effect under hood temps, it just keeps your IM from getting as hot. so no I haven't noticed any difference.

anybody ever try running an OBDI p13 with the knock sensor unplugged?

I broke my KS the same way a while ago and all that really happened was the CEL.

I drove the car around with the KS unpluged...got the CEL code 23 and the timing was retarded. lost lots of power.

then I went back and took a really close look at the KS. discovered that nothing really "broke," the plastic housing and the plug were just seperated from the metal sensor. I just kinda stuck it back together and went for a drive and it ran great, no code 23! I stuck some high temp silicone on/in their, hopefully it won't come loose. I guess I'm lucky?

well, the simple IM gasket install ended up taking like 5 hours. what a waste of a day. this thread is kind of a waste too I guess, since it only serves to document my mistakes. maybe somebody will read this and avoid the mistakes I made

166 bucks for a new ks at honda, and yes it will put the ecu in limp mode.

with the knock borken your going to throw a CEL and the ecu is going to dump a **** tone of fuel and pull a **** ton of timign, the car will feel like a dog and your going to burn thru gas

been there done that, get it fixed asap

thats not 100% true, when the ecu is in limp mode it has a lowered redline, depending on the mode its in it can be as low as 2500rpm rev limit in limp mode..

with the knock sensor gone the car kinda freaks but doesn't go into limp mode, it just adds alot of fuel and pulls timing but everything else works fine including vtec all the way to redline

so the ghetto rigged KS seems to be holding together, no CEL. but it feels like the ecu might still be pulling timing when I mash on the gas. can a KS function improperly and still cause no CEL?

i don't know how you gheto rigged it but the sensor coud be causing false knock because it is now fucked , and the ecu will pull timend and add fuel without telling you
