how do i make a mold for CF?
I've done lots of fiberglass, and almost no carbon fiber work. I've always wondered how to make a mold? what is it made of and how do i make it? not the carbon just the mold
ok wait, im lost...
i use to know a guy that made kayaks (if that's how you spell it) out of carbon fiber. before making a mold, he would first make the item out of wood.next he would use this stuff that's dark dark grey, almost black that's like a putty pushing it all over the object wood in this case. 24 hours later he popped the mold and would wet sand it til it was smooth as glass. at least that's how i remember it its been a couple of years so im not sure.
so if i was to use bondo covered wood, do i wax the surface before i start laying the carbon? with the resin come out frosted or clear?

The wet sanding of the resin will make it smooth like glass. The actual lay never really looks that good, especially wet lays. Bagged lays can look awesome in some spots, but you get resin crinkles in others as it forms to the bag.
So yeah, wet sanding makes it glass.

Precisely, and also most companyies that you would buy say...cf hoods from spray on a what they call a gel coat. What this is is another form of a resin. It is sprayed on over the part and then also wet sanded to give it that finished look. I highly recommend you look on this site and read the free info they provide. I also personally buy from this company. http://www.fibreglast.com/cont....html
