Well i just got my new civic yesterday... My old one was a 88 hatch, then i got a 95 ex 4 door... So i took my infinity door speakers out of the hatch and was putting them in the new car. Now when i took out the stock beat up alpine speakers they have a plastic plug on them and the door speaker wires have a plug that goes into them... However, my old civic did not, and the infinity speakers do not have a plug, you just clip the wires directly onto them.

My question is, and i searched but couldnt find anything pertinent to my problem, how do i either modify the speakers to accept the plug (unlikely) or modify the wires to just clip onto the infinitys like my old ones did?

Should i just clip the ends off the wires in my hatch and cut off the plugs that are on my 95 civic? Or will this mess up some important electronic function?

 

Actually man its pretty easy you can go to just about any car audio place or i think crutchfield has them.You are gonna be looking for a speaker adapter, what it does is it connects to your stock plug to one end of this adapter and then the other end of this adapter is open wires just like you said you need. I had the same problem in my 4 door. just cut the wires and figure out which one is pos and neg then plug them up.

 

you could clip the connector off and leave enough wire so you can solder the connector back on if you want to use the factories again.
or
buy the adapter as previously mentioned.
or
run new lower gauge wire and amp the new ones!!!

 

I also noticed that when i tried either pos/neg on either receiving side of the speaker, it worked. in other words, i didnt have to make sure it was pos-pos/neg-neg. Is that usual/unusual? whats the deal?

 

switching pos and neg on the speaker leads will affect phasing of the speakers. they will still work, but will sound weak and you won't get the phantom center channel that properly phased speakers have. flip one side speakers leads and see if the sound gets fuller w/ one of the 2 combinations. that's the one you want.

 

or get an amp and run your own wiring.

Your bass wont hit right either.
