Default Tire choice

I need to get some tires on my Accord. It's a '97 and stock tires are 185-65-15. I bought it used from a couple in their mid-60's (it has a 5 speed!) and with 60K miles, it has the ORIGINAL TIRES on it!! They have tread left but are squishy and weak in the sidewalls.

There's hardly any tires available in that size. If I go to a 60 there's quite a few. What's the best alternative? I can't afford to change out to 16 or 17" wheels.

Yep, I did a search and got nada.

Well the biggest question I have to ask you is are you dropped at all?

If you are I would suggest 205/55/15, if you are not I would suggest 195/60/15.

Are you planning on doing any modifications to her or no?

The 195/60/15 tires are a little wider and have a little less sidewall than the oem tires which should improve handling and make your car not look goofy since it isn't dropped. Just imaging running 205/45/15 tires...it would look rediculous.

Here is my car dropped 1.8" on 195/60/15 tires for reference:

edit: here is a visual reference with tires as well: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

It will stay stock at least until the new tires are worn out... after that, I'd like to change some things, lower it a bit and a few more horsepower.

195/60 is the stock tire size......205 tires should fit no problem....they will be a little wider, and will buldge a bit, but they will increase your contact patch, and may be cheaper....i beleve the 205/55 is a more common tire size, so might be less expensive/more options available....

if you looking for your basic "touring" tire that will perform well in snow and rain, and is quiet, id recomend the Yokohama Avid Tourers....they're on my car right now, and though i cant stand the fact that they arent grippy and has lots of sidewall flex, if you car is stock and your only going for comfort, id recomend them....plus theve got a ridiculous tread rating, and even dropped 2 in with negative camber and some toe in, theres almost no signs of weird wear after nearly 1 year of driving....and i dont even rotate them

I need a good handling tire. I drive a road twice every day that most people (car savvy people) would PAY to drive. 14 miles of corners, uphill, downhill, off camber, banked - you name it - a driver's dream. You can see why handling is a big deal.

I'm looking at a couple of tires (195/60R-15) at Les Schwab; a Toyo Eclipse $70 ea. (new model) and a Zexius Ohtsu XI 326 $64 ea. ( some say it's a Falken). Also going to look at Hankook....

Any suggestions?

For the ex no?

For the lx (90-97) it is 185/65/14 .

Toyo I run Toyo Proxie TPT's on my stock wheels right now and like them a lot some of the better tires I have used that fit on stock wheels. I would highly reccomend Toyo's as they seem to make a very good tire.

I've read good stuff about the Fuzions, but by the time I buy from Tire Rack, get 'em shipped, mounted and balanced, it's got to be more than the Les Schwab price (the only "real" local tire dealer) .
