Can someone give me some info on tracks in design and size to Gingerman?
There is a post going around the local board trying to get an old airfield facility bought/leased to put a small simple road course. Gingerman's design and size is exactly what we're looking for and we're trying to find examples of it from around the country to present to potential track sponsors and customers. Gingerman's design is http://www.wmhm.net/index.php?...c7306
So if you have a local track similar to this, just leave a link for it and we'll see if it help get us something in our area that's closer than the $300/event VIR. Although I'm sure it's worth the money, it's just not feasible to go out there for most of us more than once a year.

Yeah, it used to be an airstrip, then it was an 1/8 mile, now it's used to police evasive maneuver(sp?) training. I hope something happens because I'm sick of hearing about street racing accidents and not having any twistys to drive.
just for reference, and the other lazy people that didnt click on the wmhm link:

If you're considering building a track (converting an airfield to track use), I would think it would be a lot more important to come up with a decent business plan than to have examples of track layouts. The business plan should include realistic projections of revenues and costs, including comparisons with other tracks, as well as a complete outline of where your initial investment will come from. There are lots of "club tracks" around that you could use as examples... IF you could get a hold of their financial statements (and, since most of them are privately held, that's a huge "if").
Do you have any experience starting successful businesses, or are you just a guy who goes to track events and wants to have another, cheaper track to drive on? If the latter - and that's what it sounds like - I suggest you find someone who has experience starting such ventures, and talk with them about all the obstacles you'll be facing.
Oh, and it sounds like you're considering building a track in the general area where another track exists (and a relatively sparsely populated area as well). Sounds like economic suicide...

No i have no experience starting anything, I'm just trying to find layouts similar Gingerman just to toss out ideas. I am in no way involved with the economic development or am very optimistic this will even happen. I'm just a dreamer who's trying to help a group trying to do this. There is a group of about 5 people trying to give us an alternative for our area. We have nothing within 3 hours of our area (VIR is the closest and very expensive). Although this is the same "general" area we are a metro area of almost 3 million people who have to drive a minimum of 1.5hr to even get to a 1/4mile dragstrip. Do you know of any of these "club tracks"? How can I find more info about them?

Their websites would be a good place to start. Examples (in addition to GingerMan) include:
Putnam Park (IN)
Spring Mountain Motorsports Park (NV)
Motorsport Ranch Sportscar Course (TX)
Roebling Road Raceway (GA)
Mid-America Motorplex (IA)
BeaveRun Motorsports Complex (PA)
All of these are tracks that were designed for club events, rather than huge spectator events. All are very safe, with plenty of runoff room, and not a lot of concrete or armco barriers.
