immobilizer question
Hi, well Im kinda new to the whole honda thing... so I hoped I could get some info from some of you smart guys out there. Im going to be installing a 2003 s2k motor into a car other than an s2k.. and I needed to know if the vehicles immobilizer (anti theft system) ran through the ECU, and if so, is there a way to have it programed out of the ECU. In other words... I don't want to have a coded key to be able to start the car. Any ideas? Thanks in advanced
So... does anyone know? I know the immobilizer goes through the ECU on BMWs, and I know the dealer can bypass it, but i'm just not sure if thats the case on hondas. Either it goes through a seperate sataliete module or it goes through the ECU.
Oh, and the kind of car its going into isn't relative to the question. Not trying to be rude.. but I don't want this thread to turn into an off topic flame. Lets just say its not a honda.
Thanks guys
Oh, and do you care to share why its the least of my worries? just curious

I worked for honda and I really dont remember how it works. You could take the key apart and put the chip next to the switch. I can look it up when I get home. I just talked to my girl and she said it IS a diff unit. Its not in the CPU of the car. She had worked for Honda for 9 YEARS, its kinda funny when she know more
well, thats good news. The only thing thats throwing me off is that i've called the dealer and another place and they both tell me it goes through the ECU. but, as i've learned in the past, dealership employees don't always know what there talking about. If you could let me know when you find out... I would really really appreciate it! Thanks a lot!
ok, I did some research on this, and found out that there are 4 parts to the 02+ type 3 immobilizer system. The coded key, key reciever(cylinder), transponder module and obviously the ECM. Its that third part that Im lost on. can you find out where its located in the car? I can take it out of the doner car next week if I know what im looking for. Also, does the ECM and the transopnder module have to be out of the same car, or will it work if the key code matches the module, but not the ecm? In other words, is it only the Module that reads the code or is it the ECM as well? Thanks

I am doing the same swap, except its going into an S2000. To keep the immobilizer system intact, you have to use the ECU and the original S2000 ignition lock cylinder. That becomes a problem when you put it into a car other than an S. Either ways you're going to have to get the whole shebang recoded by Honda, provided you have legit papers for the motor.
btw the guy that is buying my customers' motor is going to put in an AE86, and will have the same problem. Its not impossible, but it will take maaaaddd work.
