vtec, please explain
from what I can tell, when VTEC kicks in, you can feel it. I have a 96 civic ex, it has a d16y but I don't feel the VTEC kick in, should be at 5k rpm right?
thanks

what turbo kits do you guys have for your sohv vtec motor (d series?)
did u guys get fuel control stuff and work on internals? or are you just bolt on....stock internals? i was wondering between getting a b series motor and dealing with the smog test in california or just turboing my 93 civic ex

fully built forged internals... makes the D turbo a little more fun when you can start to keep up with the B series turbo boys... and smoke B series N/A....

That would be VTEC-E, regular VTEC is for more high end power.
On a SOHC with stock intake and exauhst it is hard to tell when it kicks in, which is at a fairly high 5000-6000rpm, but it can be felt, just not as strong as a DOHC.
If you have ever driven other stock 4 bangers you will notice when it winds up it feels like it is struggling to go faster, with VTEC it will wind up and then keep gaining a little more power.
VTEC makes an engine act like it is bigger at high RPM, VTEC-E makes an engine act smaller at low RPM.

Actually a typical 1.6L engine from most any passenger car manufacturer from the same time period rates at between 90-105hp, so how is it that a VTEC 1.6L rates at 125-130HP and has a flatter torque curve with the same if not better mileage?
A D16Z6 is actually putting out close to the same as a GM 2.8L V6 of the same age, with half the gasoline consumed.

Hes right, an intake makes it that much louder and more noticeable difference........ or better yet, get a turbo.
