oil level gauge vs. oil pressure gauge..which one do i need?
ok i have narrowed it down to my piston rings aren't in perfect shape......now i daily drive my car and i have to drive up to upstate new york (3 hr. drive) next week......i check my oil everyday before i start it.......i'm trying to keep my motor for as long as i can without it seriously being damaged...
Now i have searched for info on the gauges and it sounds like the pressure gauge will be good for me.......i want to be able to see if i have enough oil while i'm driving, especially on the highway. last week i was on the highway and my motor was cutting off at 5500 due to lack of oil. I don't want this to happen again. Now i've had a couple of people tell me that a pressure gauge is useless for my problem...they said by the time the pressure gauge would drop its basically the same thing as the dummy light...too late.....is this true or not?....any help would be greatly appreciated

I would say if you monitor the gauge while driving you should be able to catch the oil pressure dropping. Its not like its going to drop from 60psi to 0psi in a split second.
exactly..thats what i wanted to know...will i be able to tell and pull over to add some oil before that beat *** dummy light comes on?
oil pressure gauge is a perfect way to tell how much oil you have, its actually the only thing that matters, not oil level.
You can tell a lot about the engine from the oil pressure gauge. Whether or not your motor is actually warmed up....if you need more oil, all you gotta do is take a turn fast. Your gauge will drop to like 10 psi if your low on oil
