Default integra special edition wheel/tire question

bought a set off of some guy, & they came with 195/55/15 one is punctured & the others are pretty bald so i gotta get new tires.

i'm in the process of selling my contour SVT (daily driver-should be gone next week) so i have to get this project finished so i have something to drive & don't have to get a ride with the wife all the time.

i prefer 205/50/15 because of better tire selection but not sure if this wheel is 6" or 6.5" wide

i know 205/50 is fine on a 6.5" but can you run a 205/50 on a 6" wheel?

what do people usually run with these wheels.

The wheels are 15x6. Most people run the stock size of 195/55-15. A lot of very good tires are available in that size. Some people run 205/50-15 and some others run 195/50-15, but there will be issues (e.g. the speedometer and odometer will read high by 1.6 percent and 3.3 percent respectively).

One excellent choice in 195/55-15 for performance as well as for daily driving is the Yokohama ES100, which is $61 per tire at the Tire Rack. A lot of folks are using this tire. It offers decent dry traction (very good, although not as good as some much more expensive tires), excellent wet traction, excellent treadlife (we're partway through a set on the GS-R and extrapolating from our wear after 17K miles, they will last 40K miles). And, of course, the price is great, so call it a great "bang for the buck" tire. The Avon Tech M500 ($72) is another good choice, and did well in Tire Rack testing. The Bridgestone RE010 ($134), the stock tire for the Integra Type R, offers great handling and performance, but at a much higher price.

ok...15x6

i'm not worried about the speedo being off.... 1.6 if i get 205/50

i just wonder if the sidewall buldge will be to big with that wide of a tire??

i know the ES100's come in a 195/55..but i'm not a huge fan.
my wife had them for 2 summers & i had them for 1 summer on my contour SVT.
it made my wifes aerio SX a lot better since she was coming from a yoko all-season, but i went from BF-Goody G-Force KDW to Es100 & i wasn't too impressed.

don't get me wrong...its is a good bang for your buck tire, but i wanted to try somthing else.

i was looking @ the new Hankooks, or the new dunlop direzza.

my wife is gonna try the Direzza's..they are like $59 each from tirerack in a 205/50 before my friends discount....so that will save her like 15-20 per tire compared to the 205/50 ES100's

if i get 195/55/15's i'll probably try the BF Goody G-Force Sports

my friend is trying to talk me into 195/50? cause he said the stock wheel/tire diameter on a civic VX is 22" and a 195/50 is 22.7

i just think that with the H22 swap the oilpan & header sit low enough...so having a taller 195/55 might help.

it will what throw the speedo of 2-3mph?

I'm sure you noticed in this topic that the Direzza will eventually be available in 195/55-15, no specific date available yet...

You can use a tire calculator such as this one to calculate differences in tire diameter.

For example, the stock tire size for a '92 Civic VX hatchback is 165/70-13. The 195/50-15 is 2.6 percent larger in outer diameter, so the speedometer and odometer will read 2.6 percent lower than with the stock size tire. This is approximate, as there are other sources of variation (such as tire tread depth, which varies by around 2 percent from a new tire at 10/32" versus a worn one at 2/32" with the treadwear indicator bars flat across).

A 195/55-15 is 6.1 percent larger than stock, so the speedo and odo will be that percent lower. That's a pretty big difference. You also have some other negative effects of using a tire that much bigger than stock. One is that it might rub on the fender well liners and/or suspension, due to the larger outer diameter as well as the wider tread width. Another is that it will make your car accelerate slower, through the poorer effective gearing; it's the same effect you would get by installing a final drive gear (a.k.a. ring and pinion gear) that is 6.1 percent TALLER than stock.

The 205/50-15 size will be 4.4 percent taller than stock on a Civic VX. Again, that will make the speedo/odo read lower by this percentage, and will have the same other negative effects like possible rubbing and taller effective gearing.

Sorry but you should ignore the percentages I was quoting in my earlier post above; I was doing so for folks who get tires for an Integra Special Edition, rather than for your Civic VX. Personally, I would be very wary of getting tires that are a whole lot bigger in outer diameter than stock. I wouldn't want anything bigger than a 195/50-15 on that car...

There is a pretty decent selection of 195/50-15 tires available. The ES100 is $58/tire in that size. The Fuzion ZRi is only $53/tire and did nicely in Tire Rack testing; I'd probably try that if I were looking for "bang for the buck" and didn't want to get the ES100. If you want to spend a bit more for better performance, the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is getting great reviews and is one of the very best street tires around, for $89/tire. And if you're into the BFG G-Force Sport, it's $68.

thats what i'm leaning towards....my friends can get them for 270shipped so not too bad.

as far as effects of bigger...i'm not worred about accel or gearing...the h22 will make up for that.

anyway...thanks for the info..it definately help me in making the decision.
