"best bang for the buck" summer only daily drive tires?
I'm looking for a decent set of tires (205/50/15) for my integra. I only drive this car in the summer but I'm looking for a set of tires that's going to perform well and more importantly last a long time. I already have a set of kumho mx's and I'm really not feeling them for the daily drive. they pick up all sorts of **** on the road and I get the feeling that they are not going to last a long time. So what's the "best bang for the buck" in the summer only daily drive tires?
bang for buck Dunlop FM901s *loud as hell lasted me 45K miles of hard driving* only 50 a pop too.
Yes others might be better but for first hand in that cagory thats all i'd say.
My new Potenzas are alot more but i'm 100% happier with them.

Yokohama AVS ES100 tires in the stock 195/55-15 size. $61 a tire and they'll last maybe 40K miles or so, maybe even more. Decent dry grip, great wet grip, and they last a long time. Best bang for the buck.
I would definetly go with Falken Ziex Ze-512s
They're good for all year round - they have a 30,000 miles warranty
360 treadwear.. good numbers all around - and its also one of the lightest tires i've found (little over 17 pounds)
They're also pretty sticky - my brother has a civic with little over 200 horses and gets absolutly no wheel hop and they barely squeel
1 more thing - edgeracing has them for 46 bucks a piece

I had kuhmo ectsa 712's and I thought they were great. Rode em for about 6 months and when I sold my wheels the had ALOT of meat left. I'm trying out falken azenis now(The old ones) They grip well in dry, but are shitty in wet. Also heard the azenis dont last too long either...
I'm not super impressed with ES100's
I have them on my contour SVT & my wife has them on her suzuki aerio SX
tread life wasn't the greatest....
if you drive hard they will probably only last 1.5-2 summers.
if your going from an all-season to them, then you'll notice the improved grip, but i went from BF-goody G-Force KDW on my SVT to them & i wasn't impressed @ all.
the Price is ok (bang for your buck - thats what made me get them) but i'm looking into tires for my EG right now...& was gonna get G-Force KDW2's since they are only like $10-$12 more each..& Kill the Es100s all around, grip, treadlife, etc...
the only thing that will keep me from getting the KDW2's is i found a local place with killer prices on Azenis...so i might go with them.
If you want a goood all year round tire...look @ Sumitomo HTR+ i've only heard good things & one of my friends who used to have a boosted maxima swore by them.

The Tire Rack did a side-by-side comparison test that included the Yokohama AVS ES100 and the Kumho Ecsta 712. They compared them in 23 different categores, and the ES100 beat the 712 in 23 out of 23. Oh, and the ES100 is slightly cheaper, too.

It sure has been for me. I'm using them on a daily driver '94 GS-R. After 17K miles, there is still tons of tread depth. I expect them to last 40K miles, and that's based on extrapolating their current rate of wear (I didn't just make that number up). That's more than all the other tires I've used on that car (Michelin XGT-V4, Dunlop SP9000, Bridgestone RE010).

Sumitomo makes a lot of different tires with the HTR designation (just like Bridgestone does with the Potenza name, Goodyear does with the Eagle name, etc), so make sure you are more specific in referring to which tire you mean.
The most direct competitor for "bang for the buck" tires is the Sumitomo HTR Z II model. I disagree.
I assume you're referring to the Azenis RT-215 or its replacement, the RT-615. The Azenis gets very short treadlife. For example, based on reports by folks using these tires, the Yokohama ES100 will last about three times longer (three times as many miles) as the Azenis. And the Azenis is more expensive. When you combine the shorter treadlife with the higher cost (~$71 for the RT-215, $96 for the RT-615, vs $61 for the ES100), the Azenis costs 4-5 times more on a tire-cost-per-mile basis! Also, the ES100 rocks the Azenis on wet pavement. (OTOH, the Azenis rocks the ES100 on dry pavement.)
The Azenis is a great, sticky tire if you're looking for something to take to autocrosses, and even to drive every day if you live in a warm, dry climate without a lot of rain. But it falls down when you're looking at "bang for the buck".
There are a couple of other low-cost tires - the Avon Tech M500 and the Fuzion ZRi - that did well against the Yoko ES100 in Tire Rack testing. I haven't heard anything about how long they last, but if their treadlife turns out to be decent, they also might also be worth considering for "bang for the buck". Not the fast-wearing Azenis, though.
Which Hankook tire are you referring to?
I disagree.

So what's the "best bang for the buck" in the summer only daily drive tires?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Could you explain why you don't like the MXs in better detail?
Your only the second person I know of that does not like them.

juss curious cuz im looking for comparison between the Falken Ziex's and the Es 100. I hear +/- about both of them and from what I see the es 100 should be better right? cuz the price is slightly higher for the es100 than the Ziex from places i checked.
I would go Michelins...I've never had a complaint with Michelins in my life...I know you wanted budget tires and I don't know what the price difference is...but if it's only $80-100 difference I say go for it...it the grand scheme of car modifications whats a $100 here or there...but if you really want budget...my friend sells hankooks at his shop and says for the money they're really good...I personally have no experience with them...but he sells em and says they're decent so I'll take his word for it...
I was considering hankook but i juss lost interest personally in them. I have a few friends that have the ventus and they say they are great as budget tires. As for michelins I had a good experience with them on my previous car, it wuz the rents car but 80-100 price range is too far of a jump when the ziex and es100 are around 50-60 a tire.
i have experience w/both the es100 and the fm901. in my book for the price they cant be beat. but i'll tell u this, DO NOT BUY ANY TIRES MADE BY FEDERAL. about 2 yrs ago on new yrs eve i had a blowout. and the only tires i coud get were federal. about six mnths later im doin about 90 mph in my 97 CL and the tire came APART. needless to say i damn near soiled my huggies. FM901 or AVS ES100 either way u cant go wrong.

Yeah I guess if the jump is that much it's worth looking into something else...oh well...just be happy your not shopping for 275-40-17 front and 315's for the back

yup not trying to be a baller on tires juss yet. Im still torn between es100 which I would order from discount tire, or falken ziex which I will pick up from prostreet which is local.
