Weird tach problem
I have a 94 civic 5spd and whenever the car reaches around 3000 rpm, my tachometer needle starts jumping around. By jumping around i mean the needle will shoot from side to side or will shoot from like 3 to 6000 really quick. When it does this the car feels like it's bogging out. Iv'e been told that it is a problem from the distributor. When my friend popped it open it looked like it was in good condition. I just don't want to go buy the wrong part. thanks.
Your friend is probably right, the tach jumping is usually a sign of an ignitor getting ready to go bad. They can be had from your local parts store for about $40, While your in there you may as well replace the coil too, they go for about $50. And if it's been a while you may as well do your cap, rotor, plugs and wires too.
