I installed my first mod on my car last week. I really like that I can feel the extra bit of power I got through my whole rpm range. I am hering a whistle sound almost like a loose belt at 1 very specific throttle positions... has anyone had/solved this problem?

 

It's not a problem, it's just the way the intake manifold sounds at partial throttle.

You couldn't hear it before because you had a silencer with the factory air box.

 

Completely normal with an intake.

 

Just tell everyone it's turbo!@

My turbo car doesn't whistle

 

It happens. You'll get used to it. Enjoy it.

 

This happened to me when I shortend the long neck on my filter to make it fit better. Although it happens mainly when its warm out.

My AEM short ram actually whistles really loud at idle and kind of when down shifting, but not when I am on the gas. I don't mind the whistle at all.

 

my aem sr kinda whistles too, but only above 4 grand or so. my old intake (about 12" long tube and old k&n) didn't make any noise at all. kinda weird, but i don't mind it. btw, it sounds more like a supercharger than a turbo , just not as loud.

 

Thanks for the feedback everyone... I'm relieved to find out that this is normal.
Although I was a bit surprised at the extra bit of volume from the engine bay,
I am more than happy with the noticable extra responsiveness, and slightly (15%)
better gas mileage. (I lost about 20% during my first tank of gas, I was so excited with the 3 extra horsepower.) Thank you for your helpfulness everyone, and thanks for the link slipjack, I thoroughly enjoy the ingenuity of ghetto engineering solutions, I might just try something similar...

 

yeah its completly normal, it whistles at a certain degree of throttle(about 30-45% throttle) i actually enjoy the sound because people are like "wtf is that sound? watcha got under the hood?"

 

This whistle noise is from the throttle body, even though the throttle plate is closed, there is a vent, where the engine still breathes air. It's all good man.

 

hahah.... yes its normal. With my brothers ZC motor, it sounds like a little cricket. Its awesome.

My aem short ram like humms at idle with no throttle hahaha. Got used to it though.

 

just get used to it and you wont even know its there

i love hearing my intake, i have an aem CAI and when i get on it itll start to whistle but wont do it very much when im at partial throttle. and if im in neutral and just tap the throttle you can hear it sucking, LOVE every minute of it!!!

 

Yeah My civic use to do it, but no lately!
It natural... People look at you funny when they hear it.

 

i just made my full CAI a shortram for the time being. (till the weather gets better) i get a bit of a whislte but hardly notice it when im driving, mainly when i have the hood up and when im at stop lights or sumthin....its actually a good sound lol, tells you your gettin good air.

Ya, like everyone said your gunna get a whistle at partial throttle kind of like whistling with your mouth when the air hits the throttle plate just right it'll whistle
(freaked me out the first time mine did that too)
