So I'm on my way to work today....
And I drove my 17 miles, I'm 10 feet from my parking spot and my 93 del sol dies.
The battery is not dead, the radio etc works.
The car will crank, but will not start.
I did some searches and some of the ideas I'm coming across are main relay, fuel pump relay etc
Can anyone advise me where to start?
My goal is to try something during lunch, if it doesnt work, I'm gonna have to figure something out to get home/get the car fixed.
Is there a separate fuse for the fuel pump? Just the main relay?
Help!

For these, listen to hear if the pump is priming.

There is a fuel pump fuse I beleive.
You're either not getting fuel or spark. I'd pull one of the plugs and see if you can smell fuel, then ground one of the plug wires to see if your getting spark while cranking. Good luck.

Ok cool. I will try to pull that.
What about the main relay, any links on where it is? How to get to it and the tools I would need? This is going to suck ALOT if it doesnt start up after letting it sit for a while to cool off.

I've been fortunate enough to not have to deal with the main relay yet. It's somewhere on the driver's side towards the kick panel. I think it's only held in by phillips heads from what I've seen; but like I said, I haven't dealt with it so everything in this post could be wrong.

Hmmm, a phillips head, ok.
I went and tried to crank it after letting it sit for an hour to let it 'cool off', i guess heat can make the main relay act up. But it was not a temperature issue.

Yeah, that's usually what kills it. The solder joints on it don't look to be the best design. So did you hear the pump prime before you cranked it?

Yes I heard it prime.
Battery has juice, it will crank and crank and crank, but wont turn over.
Could it have anything to do with the fact that I had to jump it last week? I left my lights on, and had to jump start it. Could the jump have cooked the main relay and caused it fail a few days later?

I am assuming I am, most of the ignition related stuff I replaced less than a year ago.
But I do not know for sure. I am at my desk and cant go check things right now.

I don't think the starter would turn if the main relay was bad. I could be wrong though, never happened to me personally.
It sounds like fuel is probably okay. Check for spark I guess. Also it wouldn't hurt to reset the ECU.

I doubt it. If your main relay was gone, your pump wouldn't prime. I think it's safe to say now that you're getting fuel, so I'd focus on spark next. Since it just died, I'd say that the problem isn't your battery, as long as it's cranking hard.
Pull a wire to see if you're getting spark, and check your grounds while your at it.

there is also a fuel pump relay under that dash. its a little brown box thingy above the hood release. but when that went bad, my car would just not start or would take forever, but it never just died while driving
I might just say **** it and get it towed to the Honda dealership 1 mile away. I'm not in the mood to check 300 things, I am in the middle of fixing my hatch lol I can only fix so much at once!

I hear you there. One good thing about having a real job is that I can pay someone to do these PITA things for me. I'm thinking about taking mine to the dealer to fix the power window regulators, because while it's a straightforward job, I'm not sure I want to spend my free time doing it.

have you done any work to it recently? messed with any engine grounds? If the ground on the thermostat housing is loose then u wont have a good ignition signal and the dizzy will not fire
Even though you dont think the batt is dead try to get a jump. You said you had to jump it last week so im thinking you have a old batt and its on its last life.
Just because your lights and electrical stuff works doesnt mean the batt has enough to start the car. Also if its stick try to push start it.

That's my guess too.

I initially thought that, but he said it just died, even if the battery was dead, the car should still be running once started, correct?

not if the battery is not accepting a charge from the alternator. happened to me before. replaced the battery, no more problems. what he describes is exactly what I went through, it even happened on my way to work lol. I'm not saying that's definitely what it is, but its really worth checking.

Wow, good info. I've never had a battery that poor off that the car wouldn't run or die after being started.
